Hi

I have a 2012 1200GS and am looking for a supplier for the starter motor brush set.
OEM states it is a Bosch Starter BMW No 12317691956.
I hope someone can help with this.

Cheers

Paul

I would think you should be able to get them from here.

http://www.woodauto.com

I tried putting the BMW part number in but that doesn't come up, have a look on your starter and find the manufacturer and there part number most likely Valeo then I think you'll be in buisness.

If it's a Bosch brush pack your after,

you can pick them up from ebay

If its a valeo pack there a little harder to source, but can be obtained from poland.

I have one sitting on my speakers in the corner of the office, i bought it, and my pack was fine ;)

Sorry if I am teaching granny to suck eggs but.....

......Read the various threads on here about servicing and repairing starter motors. They very helpful, especially the tip about using a 22mm or 7/8ths socket to help remove and fit the brushes. When stripping the starter do remove the solenoid and service/grease the bendix. Otherwise it's all straightforward.

My starter has just begun to struggle when hot. The system volts don't go below 11V
I'll check the brushes but looks like motor is on its way.

I have the JVB DVD and as usual it is excellent with a fully detailed description of the whole process.
I was just being super cautious and thought I would get a brush set ready before doing the job. It was this that I had trouble with and really appreciate Santa`s ebay link.
£25 including postage is not a lot in this day and age so I am pleased with my result.
