Anybody got a link to rebuilding Evo starter solonoids or a microfiche?

I have a solonoid issue that caught me out a couple of times last night. I can here the relay clicking under the seat but there's no clunk from the solonoid Put it it gear and nudge it slightly and it fires straight up so no big deal.

There's plenty of hits on Harley motors but next to none of them are actually any use or they have dead links.

Is there a Motorworks/motobins equivilent in the harley world?

Hog parts

Nice one. That jersey HD site looks just the job. Thanks Twizzle :beerjug:

parts seem nice and cheap as well.

I had a call from Mr Nimrod about this this morning. He's more concerned than I am.

Bikes great. Loving it

I press the starter tit on my glide, hear a thunk, wait a few silent seconds while it builds up a head of steam then the starter motor spins the engine like billy"O".

It's been like that all the time i've owned it. Should i be worried ?

Obviously i'm not worried at the moment, but i could do with some extra pointless worry and stress so i can get the same full on intense ownership experience of a 1200 owner.

Mine just made a faint "click" from the relay but no "Thunk"

It may just be the relay that gone but the fact that it's fine once it's been rocked in gear is pointing me to the starter solonoid. Last night was the first time it's done it. I have a few 40Amp relays kicking about so it's just a matter of finding the time to have a look.

Mine does that too...:D it teases me with a second or so of silence when i hit Start,...... then ........... RRRRRumph........Potato......Potato...:thumb2

On another subject regarding starter motors, mine was replaced on my 2010FLHTCU albeit from forum remarks and my experience, it was the starter clutch at fault (delay in turning engine over on starter).

On picking up the old starter later, you can clearly see the wear on the exposed cog.

Anyway, I will buy a new starter clutch when in the US next month on vacation. Going for the Zen 'life-time' starter clutch, 383-450 at JP Cycles in Daytona.

When I remove the front cover of the starter, is it under compression?
Anything liable to fly off or out?

Rob. You have a text..
I hear nothing but potato potato for last week.

How the F*ck did you manage to get into America? I thought they were supposed to be tightening things up to keep out the undesirables :nenau

i think he may be referring to a CASE 1 Mr Farmer Vs Mr Nimrod ref Starter Motors..

Ref Case 2 Mr Civil, and the broken Indicator.

Ref Case 3 Mr IFAN and the Missing £900.

it could have been fun!!

Sorry to disappoint. I'm really happy with the bike. It's 23 years old and there is bound to be something that isn't 100%

What was hoping for was somebody to jump in and say its relay x or something else. Same with the wheel bearing issue.

David's been a real gent and was really concerned when there was a starting issue. Strangely enough, apart from the other evening, its been starting perfectly every time.

I'd like to see another bike that's even half the age of this one have so little wrong with it. These two niggles haven't spoilt my enjoyment if what i consider to be a fecking good bike.

I guess you'll have to find your entertainment somewhere else :D
