I have installed the rats nest of wiring and I remembered when I took it off there were some spade connectors on the starter relay, I thought "I'll remember where they go"!

I have replaced the diode board and voltage regulator with an electronic one.

I think this is what I've got......

86 goes to the coils
87 ignition 12v
85 12v signal from starter button
87a permanent 12v
30 ???

I seem to be missing a wire to the solenoid on the starter ? Am I right in my thinking above?? And is 30 the wire to the starter solenoid??

Or have I totally boll8xed it up

Rob would be better at this But I need to pay attention too as My new to me R100RS has one of these relays

Okay going by BMW colours that seems to stay uniform across the older range

Green with black stripe = Ign Live

Red = Permanent live

Brown - earth or negative

I think this is an inhibitor relay (to prevent you starting the bike in gear without the clutch pulled in) and a Load shedding relay If you have the starter turning it drops out the feed to power hungry items heated grips headlamp etc

Update....... Apparently (according to the all knowing Google ) on some models Bmw wired up the relay backwards so

the top 87(a) to battery
87 (middle pin) loom
85 blue/yellow wire
86 green/blue
30 to starter

85 and 86 are clutch switch and starter button ( which one is which I don't know!)
However I have yet to test this in practice
