The starter motor on my 1150's being making unhealthy noises. Was going to try taking it off and cleaning and lubricating it. Any tips on accessing the lower of the two mounting bolts without having to remove the cat? Am I missing something obvious or do I just have to accept that the exhaust has to be moved out of the way?

You just need a universal joint on your socket, no need to do anything to the exhaust...:thumb

+1. Invest in one - you'll be surprised at how useful it can be. I got one for doing the very same job having torn a lot of my hair out wondering what needed to come off to get access otherwise, and it did the trick nicely.

No need to remove any of the exhaust :nenau

The top bolt is right in front of your eyes, and the lower bolt can be got to very easily with a long extension bar or wobble bar on the end of a socket.

If the starter has never been removed before, remember to cut the cable tie around it or there's a danger of you pulling all the wiring out behind it.

Thanks Welshman. I'll have another look.

Glenboy- good to see someone else had exactly the same problem.

Steptoe- yes the cable tie's still in place. Will watch for that. Thanks.

I am gonna invest in a 3/8" universal as well, as for wobble bars just got back from watching the cricket at wanderers, 15miles from here, bars were wobbling...:beerjug: oh yeah, cheapskate Welshman, ticket machine problem this morning, so free entry, a Welshie cannot miss that
