hi all

my r100gs 1993 was let sitting for 7 months and now my starter is not working
i have check my battery is ok
plus the starter spins ok but the shaft does not seem to move on to the fly wheel i have taken of the starter cover off and cant move the inner shaft by hand
how do u go about sorting it or is the starter dead ?
it is a valeo starter

those starters had a tendency to drop magnets, the glue holding them would come apart. i assume that u checked your starter relay, u can get one from the parts supply house, same as the car relay.61361(8)89105(? on that number).the g/s and gs tend to go though the relays more often, maybe due to the off road riding.

also depending on which battery u have. the sla and gel batteries can give you a false 12v. the battery can have a cell down and still read 12v but not have enough power to kick the engine, get it load tested at a shop(should be free). if the bike ran before it was parked then it is most likely something simple and not the starter. battery or relay.

got it all done and bike runs well had to put my other starter of a r100/7 and in the gs and fired first time the old starter was sized the gear was not moving up just spined when i try and start so my see if ii can get the gear unsized if not will have to leve the other one in
