I bought a 2007 F650 GS Single yesterday. Rode it for about 150 miles and loved it.

I stopped a few times and it started OK.

The next time I tried to start it, the ignition lights came on for a few seconds and went off and nothing after that. A friend came with a power pack and it started OK but when I'd take the power pack off it would cut out again.

It started OK this morning and I checked the battery and it's OK.

The bike was lying up for about 12 months and the previous owner charged up the battery before sale.

Is there any know fixes for this problem, I've searched the site and there are posts about Load Control Relays and resetting the throttle for other types of starting problem.

Thanks

When you say ...

... the battery is ok, I assume you mean it's showing +12 volts ? However if it's been stood for 12 months it probably has a much reduced capacity; try testing it under load i.e. when starting the bike, I'm sure you'll find the voltage drops off quickly and you'll need a new one :thumb

Yes it was showing 12v when I had it out of the bike, I'll try it loaded.

When you say drop the battery I am thinking that is let it run down and recharge it.

Thanks for your replies

Unless you have a drop tester you cannot carry this test out, I have in the passed removed the battery and connected any 12v device with croc clips to drain the battery,

Thanks for all your help. I tested the old battery it showed 12v switched off and 13.8 when running. I put in a new battery and it's up to 14v when running, so I am hoping it is the battery. Fingers crossed for the next few days. Thanks again for your help. :beerjug:
