I took my bike out for a ride today r100gs. I took it for a good spin then stopped for a while and when i tried to start it again nothing happened just a click clicking from under the tank somewhere. Any one have any advice on things to check before taking it apart?

Check the battery, does the charging light illuminate, when you turn on the ignition?

Charge up the battery and re try, if it starts check that it's charging at the battery with a multimeter, should be well over 13v at 4k rpm

Does sound like a poor sad old battery ! ( Check earth lead as well...if battery and earth lead appear OK then check starter solenoid connection for dirt etc...then replace if obviously still not working ).

Thanks for the reply's. I'll go and check the battery and other bits, see if it starts with a different battery. I was thinking solenoid may be stuck. The battery was on the bike when I bought it over 6 years ago and it's sat for a year twice in that time and the bike always fired first time. Pretty good run, my f650 had one battery a year in the time I had it.

It is the battery, starts fine off a car battery. Oh well, its had a good run that one.
