Of late my 2012/3 990 adventure has been struggling to start, slow turn over and saps power to the point of the clock re-setting to 1200. (I am no electrician so pardon my terminology). This morning it did just about start but not with any enthusiasm.

The battery is showing 12.6v (is this right?)
I have checked that the battery terminals are tight and clean and its a yellow mottobatt (fibre matt) battery.

Any thoughts most welcome..

The battery gets a tough time, down in the under-ride protection, so it might be worth checking the leads between battery & starter motor, as well as the negative/earth connections elsewhere.

Otherwise, it sounds like the battery is failing under load conditions. It should read about 12.8v fully charged, but it's down to whether it's capable of delivering it's full compliment of CCAs when you press the button. Just get your dealer, or an auto shop to do a load test to check it out, if you don't have any success with the lead/wiring examination. It's not the OE battery, so have you got a warranty running?

So the bike did the slow turn over and failed to start this morning. I used a spare battery to jump it and it fired up straight away. As I did 200 miles on it yesterday I have assumed the battery is fully charged - but my multi meter is elsewhere so can't confirm this and I was running heated jacket and grips on the trip.

Once it's started from cold, either reluctantly or with a jump, it re starts OK when work even after a big run so pretty sure the battery is charging OK

I am thinking that I need a new battery...
