One week only and no motorcycle  (unless I hire one).
Thought of Granada (2.5 hours away) or Gibraltar (1.5 hours). Anything worthwhile seeing whilst I'm there?

Never been to this part of spain - I've ordered a michelin regional map and going to look at lonely planet or footprint guides tomorrow - any local knowledge of must sees?

:thumb

Just thinking of Gibraltar...how does one actually get there?
Are there border gates? Do I just drive there as any other city? Is it worth going?

Rhonda.. very old town up in the hills north of Marbella, about 70 miles from Malaga, go the coast route, the road up to Rhonda is great.

Stunning views in town across a gorge.

Head down the coast road to San Pedro de Alcantara then head North to Ronda. You will keep wishing you are on the bike, but it is still good in a car. Ronda is a beautiful place. The roads are a favourite for new bike launches as they are super twisty and very well surfaced.

Good advice. I spend a lot of time in san pedro during the year. Its an unspoilt spanish town. You "cant" get an all day english breakfast there :thumb2. Also worth a drive is Tarifa. Its an hour from san pedro on the A7. Fantastic white sandy beaches. Full of kite surfers. Stay clear of Gib :barf unless you really have to go there. Its a small dirty place and only the people that want cheap cigs or tobacco go there. PM me if you need more advice on the area or advice on car rental (big difference at this time of year). :rob

Its all good, run along the coast either direction.
The train to Fuengirola is only €2
I do like Fuengirola. Gibraltar to see the apes is a must.
You can even pop over to morocco.

Great tips guys :thumb2

Seems to be much more to see in this part of spain.
Keen on getting the ferry over to Tanger for the day - anyone done this?
Aim would be to park car at Algeciras terminal and go on ferry as foot passenger (me, wife and 4 teenagers). Quite fancy the slower ferry.

Now I know that Morocco is 2 hours earlier than spanish time, there is a different current and a different language. I've also heard about the vendors/guides etc who pester and pester - whats ''No!'' in morrocan?

Reckon the ferry to tanger is a viable option for a good day out?
Anyone been?
Know of any 'must see' places and/or a good restaurant for lunch/dinner?

The caves at Nerja are worth a poke.

Whilst you're in that area, walk to the top of the village of Frigiliana - there's a couple of cracking restaurants there too!

Greg, you beat me to it...I was going to suggest Nerja...well worth a trip.

Have fun and enjoy yourself :beerjug:

too short stay for too many nice things to do down here.

I could recomend few things as the colleagues did, but all depends on what you like most:
beach, mountain, history, cities, restaurants, shopping, etc.

about the coments you had before:

Nerja, Frigiliana, etc. are nice but on the east part of Malaga. You need too much time and cannot link them easy.

Fuengirola is nice to stay but not for a short visit.
you could try Marbella instead.
you can do that when coming back from Ronda.
You have to go there to spend the day.

Gibraltar you may be interested but not too much to see, apart of the view from there.
jumping to Africa, either Ceuta (Spain) or Tanger (Marrocco) is a nice option.
Ceuta more likely for just one day.
Tanger Could be nice to spend a night there.

and there are many more things I could suggest based on what you prefer.

just let me know.

regards.

The village of Villaluenga del Rosario, west of Rhonda, is an absolute gem of a place. I'll be there for a week in early september. Not biking sadly, but caving. The roads around there are glorious, but it'd be a bit of a struggle to get the two of us, plus all our caving kit, on the bike!
