If, like me, your underwhelmed by the puny OE horn on most modern BMW bikes, you might like the sound of the new Stebel Nautilus Compact horn, which I've just fitted to my 1200GS with ear-drum shattering results.

This is a 139dB twin tone airhorn which differs from the standard Stebel Nautilus by virtue of the slimmer shorter plastic trumpets which now make it much easier to fit between the forks of most bikes.

I had to fabricate a stout alloy bracket for my particular application, but it can be easily fitted just by removing the offside tank panel of a 1200GS or the tank on the 1100/1150.

Wiring to the GS is straightforward, it works perfectly without the supplied relay and does not conflict with the CanBus system on the 1200.

It comes with okay fitting instructions and for a limited time only are available from us at Motorrad Concepts.

Fitting FOC for those who wish to visit us in Edinburgh.

Why is that then? :( I like a deal and I dont need it fitting, please.

I'm not going to get embroiled in another debate about our pricing policy, which has been done to death elsewhere on these forums.

We do not discount our products to anyone, preferring to offer our great value-for-money prices to ALL our fellow biking customers.

The exception to this is the 10% discount we offer to full members of BMW Riders Scotland.

My offer to fit it free is just that, a free offer, and I'm certainly not going to give anyone a cash alternative.

That is all.

Cheers

I'm intrigued about the relay. Why haven't you used the relay if one is supplied? Are you saying that the Stebel won't draw too much current? It may work, but that doesn't mean it is safe to put such a high current load on the wires that supply the horn.

The safer alternative for the R1200GS is the Stebel Magnum which is plenty loud enough.

It's perfectly safe to use any of the Stebel motorcycle horns on the CanBus equipped BMW's......

This horn draws more or less the same current as the OE horn which does not run through a relay.

The CanBus system does not, therefore, know the difference between the OE horn and these particular aftermarket ones. Obviously I cannot speak about other brands.

The sources of my information are (1) an authorised BMW Motorrad dealership & (2) Stebel themselves.

For what it's worth I'm not likely to fit something to my own bike which I am entirely happy with as being safe and fit for it's purpose let alone sell to others.

The horns are great! Real blasters. They'll move just about anything short of a wall out of the way. Caution: do not fire them off in your garage.

Jesus!

Are these things legal, people actually duck when I use mine! Two van drivers now been stunned and my 18month old grandson wont come near the bike after he pressed it yesterday! Awesome bit of kit, as above do not use in enclosed spaces!

Am I the only one who's bike seems to need a relay or have you chaps fitted the relay? When I fit mine I only get a short Barp and then it shuts down until reset by the ignition switch. Seems like the CAN bus overcurrent protection is being activated. Will fit a relay when I next attempt the installation.

I found mine worked intermittently without the relay, whether I reset via the ignition or not.

Therefore both mine & all the customer ones I've fitted to CanBus equipped bikes are done with the supplied relay and a small cable I made up for the purpose.
