Steering damper for the G450X?

Why a steering damper?
Steering damper makes the bike easier to ride, takes a lot of the shock out of the arms and generally makes me smoother. Since riding with one on my CRF450R I won't ride without one!

It also ensures that the front wheel doesnt wiggle every time you hit loose mud/sand/gravel.

It might be worth having a word with Nick Hamill at Billet Racing Products. I believe that BRP actually make the all-important mounts for Scotts. He'd be able to tell you what's in the pipeline.

I just installed a Scotts damper on my Husaberg today using a BRP mount.

hi frogger, just wandered on to this site, i am a new owner of a 09 g450x.
i purchased a GPR4 stabilizer direct from GPR. (see link below)
in my opinion it is a must for this bike. By the way it came with all mounting hardware for $499 US. the one thing they say it raises the bar 3/8 of an inch, not true. 27mm. I found a pro taper bar Low Carmichael bend that is only 74mm worked out perfectly.

Hi mx481, just ordered one. The fact that it raises the bar a little is good for me, any restrictions in using the original bar? Do you have any pictures to share?

If you raise the bars you will have an unstable front end. Non of the enduro riders have raisers. My 450 is set up to BMW team rider Andreas Lettenbichler who has lower bars than standard. This gives better control and I have tried both a 450x which was raised 15mm and the front was not stable. If you fit them because you stand up fully this is not correct you should only stand up about half way with you knees forward.

Ok, I can see your point, but doesn't the stabilizer help?

The other thing is that my height is something like 3 heads over the famous Juha and I feel like I'll tumble over the bike when I'm in a "situation"... and yes, I'm also a cr:censor: driver but I'm trying to adjust the bike for myself.

I also have an extra Renthal handlebar to fit on the bike, have to see what the dimensions are.

hi Jahwan, see your post i will take some pics tomorrow and send them.
of course you can run the stock bar, but as far as what works best for you and your bike is something that you have to determine. I found that there is many different ways to ride (style) so copying someones riding style may not work for you. I don't know your height but a good starting point is to study a compatent rider that has your same body size because your statement about being 3 heads taller makes a big difference in the bias of the motorcycle. For me personally I like a 99mm Carmichel bend bar in a standard off road bike clamp. The GPR raises the bars 26mm and that is alot. Thats why i use the ProTaper 74mm Carmichel bend, this is close to my preferred ergonomics. On a side note i just came back from taking lessons from a MX coach here in the USA, Gary Bailey. and he had me working on Legs straight with knees behind pegs, seemed odd at first but did work well. You have to try for yourself. If we all set our bikes up like Ricky Carmichel as great as he is.... we would all be really uncomfortable. It has taken alot of set up on the BMW but now that i got it dialed in (for me) I can ride it with the same form as my 09 Honda crf450r. hope this helps... will get those pics out!

Great, thanks! And yes, I'm adjusting the bike for my riding style, beeing it whatever it is.
Going to get some good advice soon though. I'm going on an enduro safari by Kari Tiainen, the 7 times world champion + several team world championships etc... We are going to ride the G450X bikes so this will help me to get the adjustments done on the bike :bounce1
It also seems that the ice situation is not going to be any good this year so not too many days on the ice with the spikes, which means more adjustment time in the garage :ChrisKelly
