Hi, while cleaning the bike I noticed the steering damper can be freely moved up and down on its central fitting point. Looks normal, and logic suggests it should move up and down to function correctly but not having seen it before just looking for confirmation that it is normal. R1200 LC

Just checked on my R1250R. The damper is mounted with foam washers.
IMG_2950.jpegIMG_2949.jpegIt can be moved approximately 10mm.

my Cali had 1 , i removed at PDI .
i put 1 on my RG500 , before going to the I.O.M. , took it off , 20 minutes later , never needed it there.
MGX has 1 built in , non adjustable , it will be removed at some point, to see if it's needed .
none of my other bikes have 1 .

i would be asking why does it need a damper ? is there something wrong with the bike ?
for me ....they are covering up a fault.

Mine moves freely about 10 mm or so. Almost like the rubber grommet has lost its flex. If I can work out how to post a video I will

ok, ordered washers and will try to install them. Anything special about removing I should be aware of, check?. Just notice either mines missing a washer above the foam, or yours has an extra washer..

Replaced the washers this weekend. 1 was completely flat and useless. The outer one had grit that had collected and then worn away the inners. Cleaned the damp and re fitted. A lot less vertical play and a much improved (or perceived) ride. Mirrors seem to vibrate less now and less tracking of white lines/lane split corroded ridges.

What is the millage on your bike?
