I have a strange problem with my keyless GC LC and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same.
The steering lock tries to engage when I press the button but refuses to hold - constant clicking as I hold the button then unlocks when I release the button. Occasionally, if I hold the bars forward I can hold the button for a while and the lock engages. Then, the first time I press to unlock nothing happens, but it works the second time. Bizarre.

Are you locking with the bars turned to the left? It won't lock in any other position.

Mines a 2017 and I was told it only locks left, just checked and it does only lock left.

Mines a 17 plate Triple Black GSA. In the light of the above posts I've just double checked it in the garage.

Yep, it definitely locks either side.

As did my 2015 GS.

From the 2017 GS handbook:-

Lock the handlebars
Requirement
The handlebars are turned towards
the left. Radio-operated
key is within range.
Operation
Press and hold down button 1.
The steering lock engages with
an audible click.
Ignition, lights and all function
circuits switched off.
Short-press button 1 to disengage
the steering lock.

Yes. I sometimes get this when I'm locking the bars to the right. It just means the pin can't locate and the bars need a bit more persuasion.

That doesn't seem right, sounds like the solenoid or whatever it is that moves the locking pin into position has a problem. The only odd and slightly annoying thing I have noticed with mine is that the steering lock will not operate while the bike is in its post switch off delay period, i.e. when the electrical accessories circuits stay live for a minute or so after switching off the ignition.

Take a look at the headstock. The plate welded to the headstock extends a long way to the right and blocks the locking pin from extending. I wonder why they did that?

Let's not forget 2017 GSAs are a year behind 2017 GSs, tech-wise.

I need to be more persuasive ! But, just like the missus sometimes nothing works :D

I'm guessing solenoid isn't holding - pretty sure the pin goes in but then comes back out again.

Which model year is the bike? If it's one of the 2nd-gen 2017 models (the range including the poo-brown Exclusive and Rallye) it locks to the left only. BMW say as much in the handbook and if you get in there with a torch and look at the headstock, you will see why it locks to the left only.

It's an Exclusive - and I like the colour :tears. Just checked and you're right, it's supposed to only lock left - but at the moment it won't lock at all.

Pity it only locke to left. Why? Often used to lock to right to get extra lean.

BTW Tried locking my Exclusive whilst still sitting on the bike - I couldn't get off as bars get in the way! Anyone else experienced this?

I have not tried it, but personally I would not try, putting unnecessary stress on components, as once you remove weight off bike it will all move but the steering will be locked thus movement could stress lock etc. especially if the steering was in place where locking mechanism was tight.
