Hi Theo yup remember U on friday lunch at the bar - (food wasn't very good either!) but the beer was cold :) Great day saturday- well managed to burn my face too!

What is the Stella Alpina?

An event? a place? both?

What's involved? Is it hardcore only?

It's for people who ride bikes instaed of posting about them

Just got back me self - great time had by all who can ride further than the end of their road :)

ou-la-la

Yo Grazoid..... just got back?
sheeshhhh it didn't take that long to catch Dillinger! :augie :D
Good to see ya there- it was a great one eh?
I do love those Italians food/ etc etc
Avanti!

For Novice
It's a yearly event - anyone can come - it's free (except the T shirt and badge, your food/fuel/travel costs)
Camping on the mountain is free - no showers though but a nice.....cold lake. Brrrrrr
it's very friendly
two stage climb - first to the lake on gravel/compacted earth/fist size stones
second stage is a bit more challenging as it gets a bit narrower and 'whiz pogos' fly past heavier bikes.
You climb until you've had enough
Nothing to prove just enjoy your self
A chap on a Norton got up there....
Road tyres can do it - Tourances fine - knobs help a bit
Great food, nice beer, lots of bikes from all over Europe- pleasant laid back atmosphere
It's in Bardonecchia here N45 04.771 E6 41.971
Pictures should show you what it was like- go for it - live!

Hi mate :thumb2

Yep......twas me :D :D :D

And moi ausi Lou Can! That would have been a very expensive insurance claim, if you hadn't stopped ... if you had survived the drop! Three GS's in one hit... outstanding :) And of course you do realise that you are now famous all over Europe, me and Tarka will be getting  for free at rallies thanks to that story... btw was that piccie a wee bit blurred due to your shaking hands ;) One things for certain , will be unable to recognise you at the next East Midl;ands meet , without eyes like saurcers and a very pale expression from all the blood drained from your face due to shock :D Hmmm why did we think he was a Boche , Tarka ? Was it because we couldn't see his Reg plate as we were laughing so much ??

Got back home last night.....after a 675 mile day, making a total of 1075 miles in two days because I forgot about having to be in work tomorrow :augie
Ahhh sorry about dragging you into the Sitting Bull for an extra beer or four... still wondering what to tell the rest of the club as to why I need a new sweatshirt! We managed to get to Bourg St Maurice before the hangover kicked in - the excess of oxygen after nearly a week at or above 2000 meters was making us v.tired...or the Bourbon in my case.
Hey Bert...great to see ya,sorry about having to dash soon after....we got to the bike shop in Susa on time and my mate found a replacement brake hose.

Next year......a URAL INVASION OF ITALY :clap

Hi from myself and Jules Bert, pity we only had brief moments to chat. Perhaps next year ? Well if I do it again , think I will be doing it without the other half, as her dislike of heights close to road made it quite a trial for her , but she did make it past the rock step before wanting to turn back, and rode a bike laden with luggage up to the rifugio and back down again. Think she really needs an award for bravery for that one!

Hiya Bert, yup we finally decided that if we want to spend more time in France need to get back to work to earn the pennies to do it.

We kinda got stuck up at the rifugio Sunday night by the thunderstorm and had to wait for the track and our gear to dry off a bit to come down Monday. Stopped at Bardo for two days, did some pass bashing and dried the camping gear off , then headed back... ended up heading North for a few days in Arras instead of the Dordogne as planned, as it was too hot lower down after the mountains, takes us few days to acclimatise to plus 30 heat.

Ended up having an emotionally draining tour of the WW I Battlefields, which kinda stopped after I made the discovery I actually lost a Great Great Uncle on the first day of the Somme. Saw an R.Hoose who is listed as a Pvt in the Kings Regiment on the Thiepval memorial and checked in the book, sure enough his next of kin was listed as my great great grandparents. I need to check but I think it was their youngest son. Up until then we had been having trouble with the fact that the statistics of how many died had started to turn from numbers to the physical feel of the actual people who died as we saw more and more names carved on memorials.

All I can say is... Great Great Uncle Reuben. You will not be forgotten again by the family.

Okay... looks like it wasn't Lou Can who nearly took the two of us off while parked on a corner... or was it , can you confirm this Tarka... and if not the story should be told...and you can do it...me I am shattered off to bed and an early appointment with the dentist tomorrow ... well today now... piccies to be posted tomorrow or today ...wibble wibble thud....

At the last count it transaltes well into Italian, french,Dutch and even german... had people pissing themselves laughing at it then translating it for their mates who then pissed themselves laughing as well. Pity we didn't get a pic of the guy he is now a euro biker legend!

Would have loved to have joined him , but at this point all bodily fluids had already been drained from me by the simple fact that I had attempted to brake on a downhill section and forgot to turn my ABS off when I had set out! needless to say it stayed off for the rest of the attempt.

Vey very small people. Here they can be seen with tiny tiny glasses of shandy . They are actually sat at the tiniest table in the place to make themselves look normal.

GS riders are ...

Giants among men, as can be seen by sitting at the biggest table in the place and drinking from the biggest after dinner coffee mug available in all of Italia it still looks tiny next to their hands.
