Steptoes Moroccan Dash 2

Hi Steptoe,

My riding has lapsed a bit in the past year or so (last cross channel trip about 4 years ago) and I even had to re-register to post this.

I've wanted to do this for years so just got it signed off by SWMBO, booked the Eurotunnel and I'm in.

Now I need to get some serious riding in ahead of March 31st.

Looking forward to it!

Mike

Get down there on one of those keeping up with the GS's and you are a hero to all bikers and Suzuki may well want your bike back for their museum :bow, alas you may not be able to walk again :D

What I meant was, 'if you get down there on one of those, you won't want to come back', yes partly because you may not be able to walk:D but once down there a bike like that is far more fun than a GS:thumb

Got my place of the tunnel booked also!!!

Now i just need to tell work.....

i can't wait....:bounce1

Of course I knew exactly what you meant - but this isn't For Sale & Wanted and that in my book makes you fair game :upyou

We'll see, i'll be adding the Corbin seat and 450mile :eek: tank :thumb

Any idea how long you will take to get to Gibraltar?
ANd any idea how long it would take to get from Ferry to get to Marakesch (hatching a plan to meet swmbo and family in Marakesh, we both get holiday win win!!!:D )

I have a rough idea of the route - but doing the same as last year. Take it as it comes. I can't give a day right now where we'd be in a particular place.

Don't know how many people are coming,what the weather will be like, and how long it'll take to go across France, Spain. We stop at times, not destinations :D

The "Go do one" on the run tour plans =

I do plan my tours -

I leave home, and get to my destination. Thats a plan isn't it ?

What happens inbetween is all the fun. If it's great weather and you're in the groove, ride till you want to stop.

if it's crap weather take it easy, and you'll be glad you rode further when the weather was nice.

Take each day as it comes, don't set yourself a target. if you miss it, you'll be chasing yourself to catch up, or you'll have to change the "plans".

If the road looks better elsewhere, go down it, and find out.

The biggest bonus - No plans = nothing can go wrong

No plans doesn't mean you're not organised. Big difference :thumb

Read my post above.

I can only give approximate times - as it depends on = 1, The weather; 2, How many people; 3, Their riding experience ;

Hopefully Gib monday am. Fez is the first nights stop, Marrakesh the second nights stop in morocco.

I know that one persons wife is flying into marrakesh, so he'll be meeting with her after we leave and staying on for a few days.

That's a good way to get to go, and keep the other half happy. How can she refuse an offer like that :thumb2

Hi Mike

Dwight at your workplace told me you were doing this one. Is Dr Rich an acquantence of yours too? Really interested in this but it's a confidence thing. New Years resolution is to do more events and trips. This sounds rather fun.
Will have a re-read of my signature and convince myself it's a good thing.
Where are you thinking of doing the "serious riding"? I'd certainly need some.

Steve

I've been asked by a few people about meeting on the way.
We aren't waiting for anyone, the channel tunnel times are the latest times were leaving.
If you can't those times, get an earlier train, not a later time, and wait at the services after the terminal exit. Just let me know.
Same if going by ferry, get across earlier and we'll catch up with you on the autoroute on the way to bodeaux.

This is the whole point of this type of "On the Run" ride. Just turn up and go. As carefree and relaxed as possible. And some of the questions being asked don't fit in with the whole idea of this type of ride.
Novice managed last year. He only picked his new ( secondhand) bike up 3 days before departure . He had a couple of tough times, but sailed through it. Ask him now just how hard those times were, and he'll tell you they were what made the trip. Nothings easy that requires effort, the more you put in, the more you'll get out.

You will remember the trip all your life.

The beginning of this ride is very hard, until we arrive in morocco.

If you fall by the wayside, so be it. If any machanical problems, we'll try our best to sort it out, but if it's terminal you'll have to sort yourself out with breakdown cover/bmw assist etc .

Can you cope with being the middle of spain by yourself with a bike that's U/S ????

This is not a guided tour. You'll not be comforted and cosseted. In fact you'll have the piss taken remorselessly.

A rough idea of times = destinations

Bordeaux = saturday night.

Granada ( give or take a few miles) = Sunday night.

Fez = Mon night

Marrakesh = Tues night

Tinehir/Dades gorge/Todra gorge = Weds night

Meknes = Thurs night

This is all very flexible, depending on the experience of the riders, plus they'll be a couple of options for those that want to take a more entertaining route for some short sections.

Believe me, you'll see so, so much, that you wouldn't think possible in the time.

Three different countries, a different continent, a culture that hasn't changed for hundreds of years, and kebabs .
