Steptoes Moroccan Dash 2

Cost

Steptoe (or anyone else who went last year), do you have any idea how much last years trip cost you?

(I realise that hotels are £8-£25, and I could vaguely guestimate the petrol costs, but it would be helpful if someone could just say 'it cost me' £xxxx in all.) Thanks

I'd guess £1000 - £1200 for everything ( petrol, accommodation. food), including all channel crossings and ferry crossings to morocco, and all the souvenirs you can carry.

Just had a quick look through last years ride report.

Page 4 of the report has some costings .

It cost Fanum £1100, and that was with a late booking channel tunnel crossing of £142

Thanks
If I am coming, it will definitely be a late decision. Having just asked Emma if I could go the response was "In your f*****g dreams, if you think you are going to go on a big piss up and leave me here with the bloody kids you can think again".
So I have a little work to do ;)

Unlucky mate.....!!

My buddy told me to sell one of my bikes and get myself a wife. Not a good swap methinks....!!:D :D :D

So, can anyone confirm there are any women going ? my missus really wants to sit on the back for the morocco part , hopefully meeting the rest of you guy s in granada or somewhere near .

This sounds a good trip to have a go at.
Count me in.

If I'm coming down from Sheffield I'm gonna have to set off the day before - so I might as well meet up with you all in Calais the next morning.
Anyone getting the tunnel the day before & having a night in a hotel in Calais?

John

I have an extra day , so I think I will cross to France on the Friday , have a lie in and meet you in Calais on Saturday . It sounds as if I will need the sleep.

There you go - look at post number 99

The service station as you leave the tunnel terminal in France attached as a waypoint.

I've had a look and I'm sure this is the one we stopped at and met up with Fanum at last year...

Yup, thass' the one :thumb......

Good idea to stick a bike on the grass in front though so people can see it.....you can't see the road from next to the coffee machine and it'd make it obvious you're there :D

I thought it was going to be a mad dash down, stopping after 1km for petrol :blast

Think about it  - everyone starts with full tanks, so were not stopping at different mileages for someone to fill up .

Plus fuel's cheaper in France

Ive just booked the tunnel for 16:20 on Friday evening March30.

Also booked in the Etap for the night - will see you there.

Tunnels booked...

So what else will i need to do prep wise? (i'm just thinking aloud here...feel free to butt in if i've missed anything)

Photocopy passport (just renewed so years away from expiry), V5, insurance certificate and driving licence ?

Get PIN sorted for plastic.

Money- whats the currency in morocco? camels? goats? can i get it from a bank or the local farmers market?

get bike serviced, and new rear tyre.

What will i need to carry bike wise?

1l can of oil?
Electrical/gaffa tape?
zip ties?
Is it worth bunging an inner tube in the bag?

Is the BMW standard tool kit sufficient, or go through it and add anything that isn't present already? I've had it out when working on the bike, and it seems fairly comprehensive, but has anyone found anything it's lacking in (apart from cold beers)?

various spare nuts and bolts?

This isn't supposed to be a panic list, just making sure i have all bases covered.

Personal stuff:

Clothes, toothbrush ect.

Water and a bulk box of tic tacs?

Have i missed anything?
