Having the tools, and knowing what to do with them, are not the same.

Yeah I'd like to know what you carry aswell! We've all got certain stuff under the seat and strapped to the frame but after a German friends KTM640 oil sightglass problem at the weekend I think I'll carry a spare one for the 1150GS 'just in case'!
This is some of what I have....
Clutch lever
Brake lever
BM toolkit with 'extras'
Compressor
Small hand pump
Tyre levers
Spare tubes but they are bulky and just incase a tyre gets gashed, some rubber strips aswell
Spare bulbs
Spare fuses, relays, wire, tape, connectors etc!
Assorted nuts bolts and washers
Zip ties and Duck Tape
Silicon sealant
Superglue
Straps
Forry's bearings when he lets me borrow them and a final drive seal and bearing!
Rubber pipe and assorted jubilee clips etc
Engine oil in a wee bottle
A lot of stuff that I've got but can't remember
Fuel filter to get!
Oil sight glass to get!
Spare indicator to get!
Alternator belt to get!
What do you think Steptoe, is there anything obvious I've forgotten?

I only take the things that would stop me moving - indicator bulbs etc you can get anywhere, and they wouldn't leave you stranded, you can still ride without a rear brakelever

I used a thin bolster, and small thick ended bolster.
Remove the bearing by Starting off with the thin bolster, then the thick bolster, then the combination of the two.
By the time thats off, the new bearing wouldhave heated up on the exhaust.
No need to replace the seal if it's not leaking - Don't even bother replacing it to be on the safe side ( unless your carrying a couple of seals as spares). I've had new seals leak straightaway. I kept the old seal on my own bike after replacing the bearing. It's still ok 25K miles later.

Mmmmm, was thinking of taking the GS back to Iceland next year for the third time in the back of the Landrover!!!
Funny though, when your the 'only GS in the village'(Iceland) how far away all these helpfull GS riders are! Maybe I should go to Morocco instead, I hear there are GSss camped under every bush there and the clutch levers are handed out free when you buy a Taginne!!!

I always think that if I'm helpfull and courtious to other GSers on this site, when I do get out on the road that maybe one day I'll get a wee bit of that help in return, when I need it, in the middle of nowhere, with a 'busted GS'! I've sorted three bikes on my travels that were in 'bad' trouble one was in Icelands Westfjords and involved a hundred and fifty kilometer ride to even reach the bike and it was fixed with a few spare bolts and 'gaffa tape' one involved a 'mates finger' and an 8mm spanner!
and the other involved the guys own spare lightbulbs and my fingers to change them at the end of a long dark Norweigian tunnel!! I'm not a mechanic or engineer but that didn't stop me giving what help I could.

10 & 13 mm spanner, couple of sockets, flatbladed and phillips screwdrivers. Set of Allen keys ( right angle, flat one end ballended the other end), and my snap-on mole grips. Thats all you need to go around the world
