What's the going rate at a BMW dealer for these?

I think I read on here, that the 1200 ones are longer lasting than the original 1150 type. More importantly they are a direct swap, are they just a newer better designed part?

Sherlocks are £72.48 excluding postage, Motorworks are £70.64.

I think that the current version is an upgrade.

They were £45 from BMW last time I bought one (a couple of years ago).

If it has a grey plastic panel section in the cap, its a new type.
If it's all black, its an old type.

The new type are definitely better.

I was quoted approx £85 ex postage from Bahnstormer yesterday if that's any help.

Bloody hell. Is that for one? If so, inflation seems to have gone mad.

I've just checked the invoice from Ocean, dated May 2008 and I paid £99.92 for a pair (the later grey-topped ones).

Another "improvement" prone to stranding you and costing a fortune to fix, (£140 + for 2) Am I glad my 1100 has a traditional coil pack under the tank!

Look on ebay for "stick coils" there are hundreds, surely it wont be long before someone discovers XXXX coil fits and works well and is only a fiver :D

A web search reveals others are thinking on the same lines :thumb

"When BMW went to the coil-on-plug design, they apparently didn't do enough homework. The BMW stick coils fail with some frequency. Also, there are no known aftermarket substitutes/replacements. And, the BMW replacement part is very expensive. I just read of a GS owner substituting Ford COP parts to fix/replace his failed BMW stick coils. Cost was $30.00 USD. "

I must admit, I didn't ask if it's for one but based on the price from Motorworks etc, I'd guess so. Ah the cost of 'progress'.......

The grey ones are actually black again.
After one gave up last week, I replaced both and was surprised to find that they are black again.

Part No. 12137715853, around £65 each...

At least the old ones lasted since 2003...

Not entirely sure what I was originally quoted for as I bought two from Bahnstormer today and they were approximately £72 each.
