Out this afternoon. Lightweight gloves. Starts to rain. Put heated grips on for a min. Next thing throttle sticking. Grips off and within a couple of mins throttle back to normal. First time this has happened on this bike (07 GS). Never happened on my other Beemers. Presume it has something to do with expansion. Anyone else had the same problem?........F

YES... When you say 'grips off' do you mean you turned the heated grips off? Exactly the same thing happened to me, I was going over the top of the moor to Holmfirth and thought it a little chilly, so switched the grips on, a few minutes later I relaxed my grip to close the throttle down and it continued to pull up hill...

When I got home I had a root about on here and found the issue. The way to solve it is to removed the bar end and then the entire guard, and then undo the switch and throttle housing to get at the handlebar clamp, and move the grip inwards by a 1mm or so and tighten it all back up.

Thanks for that NRB. I attempted the same but do not have a TX bit large enough. If it will fix the problem I'll buy one.......F

There is an easier way.

Remove bar end torx and weight, insert washer (oil drain crush washer will do). Replace bar weight, tighten torx. Job done

Rusty Bar

I had the same problem when the heated grip was replaced under warranty - found that water had been sitting in the grip and rusted the handlebar - when the grip heated up I suddenly had cruise control!
Removed the grip, removed all the rusty gunge, sanded the rusty scabs and treated with WD40 before reassembling. I have had no problems since - but I always lock the steering with the throttle side high now so moisture can't sit in the grip (in theory).

Common problem on all the oilhaeds (well I've had it on an 1100, 1150 and 1200 but not the RT). Easy fix - 2 minute job at the dealer if you don't fancy it yourself.
