new zumo 660...nice....but why does it beep at me when I break the speed limit??

cue for amusing comments about staying within limits and so make problem go away!

tried garmin

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Unfortunately you will not be able to turn off the speed limit beep or set it to one. That is apart of the units programing.

so am I really stuck with this beeping in my ear all the time?
tried tools/settings, custom POI, set tone to OFF....

altho 1 beep would be nice, I still have quite a good memory so dont need reminding every 2 secs!

Perhaps your Speed Camera warning is on?

Tools -> Sewttings -> Proximity Points -> "Change" on preoximity Alerts -> uncheck Garmin Safety Cameras.

worth a try any way.

cheers

Markie

replace the warning tone with a silent tone that you could record on your computer and then overwrite onto garmin.

Are you sure it only beeps when you break the speed limit? Only reason I ask is because my 2610 used to produce irritating beeps every now and again - it turned out that bright sunshine (like we had here over the last couple of days) could affect the infra red sensor.

From memory I had to press Menu - Options - Menu - then toggle between infra red on or off. Hey presto, it sorted it out at a stroke. :thumb2

hi markie
will try this, I thought that as I had switched off beep on custom proximity points (where I had guessed the garmin speed camera warnings thingy was stored:()) that would do it....hopefully this will fix it...

pity really as 1 beep would be good, but garmin clearly dont agree
ta for the thought

hi taff yes, beginning to get a little nostalgic towards me old 2610....
expect the new one will be fine once its owner gets himself sorted out!:thumb2

Mine only beeps once for every speed camera location when I'm exceeding the limit. It does that because that's how I set it in the proximity points settings.

What version of SW is your 660 running?

cheers

i am quite prepared to admit I may have got something wrong, but am at a los to understand where and how to fix this!

hummm, same as mine but mine never beeps (related to speed). Is it definately when you go over the speeed limit? I really don't undrstand this. I take it the display does not change? This happened to me on a 2610 when some grit got between the edge of the screen and te case., but the display was a give away.

cheers

hi markie
first, really appreciate the interest shown in this issue
second yes beeps when over limit.am going to go for an extended test run in car ( so its easy to stop and examine settings etc as I go)as soon as poss, as this seems to be the only way i can start to get to grips with what is going on....and then report back:thumb2

Did you set the proximity warnings to silent when the unit was set to Car settings or Motorcycle settings? They might be switched off only for Motorcycle settings.

good question, dont know!
will have to go check/redo and report back

I expected the Zumo 660 to have a user definable speed at which the unit would go off. On an older Mio GPS I could set it to the speed limit plus or minus a percentage. Had mine set to sound for speed limit plus 5%. Thought Garmin would have provided the option to set user definable limits.

You could even set my old base model Corsa to beep at a user defined speed.

I think that's true of most recent German cars. I believe it's there as a warning when you fit winter tyres which are rated at a lower maximum speed than all-season or summer tyres.

hmmmm
mine was set to "off"

having picked up my GSA with 660 a fortnight ago, I've faced exactly the same problem as you. For 5-10mins each way on my commute I endure a 50mph average section and get my music interrupted with the beeps. The audio in my proximity alerts are also off.

does this mean there won't be a warning for any cameras?
