stop beeping at me!!

Yup. Turned mine off.
Driving me potty.
Why couldn't they build in a user defined margin so it bleeped at (say) 35 in a 30 ?

I've just bought a 660 and although the Cyclops database is already in there, I downloaded the one from SCDB with POI loader and disabled Cyclops. If you do this using the manual option, it gives you the chance to define the 'excess' you require over the posted limit. Do you download Cyclops in the same way? If so, set your alarm trigger points there.

I expected the Zumo 660 to have a user definable speed at which the unit would go off. On an older Mio GPS I could set it to the speed limit plus or minus a percentage. Had mine set to sound for speed limit plus 5%. Thought Garmin would have provided the option to set user definable limits.

You could even set my old base model Corsa to beep at a user defined speed.

I already discussed this with Garmin Tech Support and asked them to consider including a user defined tolerance to be included in speed limit warnings, since the existing setup was as much use as a snooze button on a smoke alarm.

They said they had referred this possible modification to their software developers, but couldn't promise anything.

Maybe if other users wrote and requested this, it might reinforce the message.

The route planning software on my mobile phone gives me the option of building in a 5km/h excess on say a 50 km/h zone, etc. etc. so that is much more useful.

hi andy
the database was already installed on mine too
I will try to download "the one from SCDB", (not having heard of this it would help if a link could be posted to save me a bit of faffing about finding it!)
the manual does not state how to disable cyclops
I suppose intsall of a new database will "over write" that one?
like the sound of setting alarm trigger points....
thank for the input:thumb

http://www.scdb.info/en/ less than 10 Euro a year! When you use POI loader it doesn't overwite the Cyclops db but you can just deselect it so as not to give duplicate warnings. When you invoke POI loader you can then select the speed tolerance that the warning will go off at and I think also the distance before too!
I haven't had the chance to test it in anger because we don't have cameras up here !!

Cheers

Hi Russ i had the same thing with my 660 , Did you set the AUDIO in Proximity Points you have Single Tone , Continuous Tone ,Off .Select Off then press ok ,Then with the Garmin Safety Cameras Untick the box and then o k ,Then hit the back button.Thats what i did and no more beeps.Francis

hi francis
thats is exactly what i have done so far to stop it, and now looking at downloading another speed camera database to ensure i can set tolerance before it beeps....a beep is ok, repeated beeps is a pain in the proverbial!

Maybe try it again and when you get back to the main screen take the battery out and put in again after a minute ,It might kick start it into working.I had a problem with my memory card as it would see the card one minute play the tunes. Then when you stopped for a smoke or coffee and started up again it could not find the card.I ended up taking the battery out card out ,Put them back in again and it has worked everytime since .Or failing that a reset "but save" any important stuff first Worth a try .Francis

hi andy
ok,
subscribed to scdb and downloaded their database onto pc and then via garmin poi uploader onto the zumo.
the files of differing "speeds" they suggest downloading in all categories separate which i did, ok except then wehn you use the poi uploader you have to remeber which is which!
as a first effort have also just downloaded the uk and european sites all as mph ( may need to redo the uk ones later as a separate "favorite" from the european kph ones)
then deselected the garmin database on zumo
it all seems to have workand on gpsr...all I have to do now is go out and see if they work as expected... we have lots of cameras around here to test it on:blast
by the way
I set all to beep on approach to site rather than at a set speed (its either/or not both) at 500ft, hopefully this way no more repetitive beeping!!
thanks for the help on this

Russ
You have to be careful with the units you use if you want to mix UK mph and 'over there' kph. It can be done by putting them all into a metric database and uploading as kph, then if you use the Satnav in imperial units, it recalculates in mph (at least my 2720 did)!

yeah thinking about it I will probably redo it all as a UK only database and then upload europe only when on foreign trips...keep it simple works for me!

just an update
loaded POI database from scdb and it works fine!
no longer does my zumo beep at me except when a speed camera looms (rather than every time I strayed over the limit! I still get screen reminder of what the limit is (sometimes in rather fetching red colour;))

but the beeps are limited to tone on approach to the "danger"...so thats a result as far as I am concerned....:thumb2

as a general note now using the zumo a bit more and finding it quite a good bit of kit, once I got over my initial feelings that it should be more like my 2610, but better!:D

thanks to all who chipped in with ideas and help, Nice One!!
