We visited Conde sur Vire at the weekend as part of a twinning group and our hosts took us out to a tucked away chateau to see an amazing collection of models. Apparently the owners brother (I think, my french is a bit thin) has this hobby whereby he makes things in wood which are either to scale or larger and they now have sufficient to fill their small museum at the Chateau De Montfort

It's about an hour south of Caen I think and is worth the effort on route south to your ultimate destination, or as part of a Normandy tour. The models are fantastic and very detailed. They deserve to be seen in detail so I have put an example on my favourite picture site, my page is here:
