I have just returned from a 3 week climbing trip in the Andes and have taken hundreds of photos. In addition to my own pictures I've been given a few CD's full of photos, from other members of the group.

I trawled through them all and tried to make 1 folder with all the good ones in, and then re-arranged them so they were in the correct date order. Unfortunately 2 of the guys hadn't set the date on their cameras so this couldn't be done automatically.

After a few hours of sorting the pictures as I wanted them, I closed the folder. To my dismay they went back to their own order and when viewed as a slide-show using Windows Picture & Fax Viewer they jump all over the place.

Does anyone know a way of organising the pictures into the order I want, and keeping them there?

Many thanks

Probably easiest to take a copy of them all and then rename them using a 6 digit number - leave gaps so you can fit others in if you miss them the first time through.

e.g.

000010.jpg
000020.jpg
000030.jpg
etc

Or.... stick 'em on something like FLICKR then you can just drag'n'drop'n'shuffle your running order.

It also does a Slide Show.

Additionally, you can share the "Set" with guests who get a read-only weblink.

don't burn them to a cd as you have to burn through the protective cover to record and over time this will oxidise and your data will degrade

Clive is right on the money - it's the only way of doing it (I think) in Windows ;)

Thanks for your help guys.

I've started re-numbering them & it works a treat.

Erm.....you're not re-numbering them individually are you?

Select the first one, then press shift and select the last one (in LIST view)..or 'select all' from the EDIT menu..then right click the first one, select 'rename' and it'll do all of them sequentially.
:)

For example is you call the first one 'Trip Pic'. the next ones will be 'Trip pic (01)', 'Trip Pic (02)' 'Trip pic (03) etc etc

Great tip

:beerjug: Cheers Fanum

Really useful tip.

Found it works really well if you rename the first one 'Trip pic (0)'
