Hello all, I have noticed a couple of times, this odd burning smell while I've been sat at lights in town. Doesn't happen all the time, just once in a blue moon. Always while dragging through town traffic.

I thought it may be something burning on my exhaust, but it has a very distinct odour, always the same. Quite acrid.

any ideas? or should I not worry about it till i go up in smoke... :D

Ta very much.

have you a cat

don't know if you are being serious or not, but that's a good point. I don't have a cat, but I have noticed that my cover sometimes stinks of cat piss in the morning when I use it.... :)

Probably pisses on the bike when there is no cover.

Could be.

Clutch?...bikes done 16,500 miles...had just under 10,000 on it when I got in september last year. Do those sort of miles mean clutch, I know it depends on riding style etc. I do commute into town everyday...about a 30 mile round trip.

Expensive? I going to Europe in July. Maybe I should get it checked out beforehand.

Thanks for the help.

Have just a done a 'smelly clutch' search on here...found out they do pong a bit under heavy use, I guess this means it's not on it's way out just yet.

Cheers for the help. :thumb

I had that for a couple of hours riding stopped at the lights and went to melt down, check the cylinder plug , quite common aparantly

.....Mine does the same..........2002 1150....

I've had it just over two years now, and it's done it on and off since I got it. I have decided .....possibly foolishly....that it's just one of those things. The 'bike runs just fine.....touches wood......

When the clutch.....oil seal.....electrics........bearings.....or whatever fail, I will let you know... :(

Does it smell like TCP ?
Mine does that when riding slow in traffic, especially when two up.

Traced the TCP smell on mine to the clutch, which gets hot due to having to slip when loaded and constantly pulling away.

Your car will also smell the same if the clutch is allowed to slip when puling away under load on a hill.

Happens a lot. It's actually the acrid smell of the bitter ashes of the dreams of the rice-burner boys you toasted earlier in the ride. You'll get used to it.

:D Like that thought.

Thanks for all the help, :bow I reckon it's the clutch. I just hope it's not on it's way out...it's not slipping or anything, seems to be working fine. Only pongs every now and again.

i new a girl with a smelly crutch once that also smelt like cats piss once you get passed the smell you have the problem licked also check if your neighbours cats missing if so it could be the smell of the cats arse burning and if the cat isn,t missing then kill it for pissing on your gs seems only fair :spitfire :clap :dabone

Possible it might be a sticky brake caliper dragging the pads on the discs.

... or any of the above...
