Strange noise

Hi guys

This is my first time posting so be kind...

I am experiencing a strange noise(rattling sound), specially when i'm in 3rd gear and giving some gas.
Dont know if its coming from the engine or Catalytic exhaust. It's normally there whenever i am in high revs in the higher gears.
Have any of you experienced something like it?

Hi Paul, nice bike. Just like mine in fact.

I was once reminded by a brilliant motorcycle mechanic (don't get your hopes up, I am not one...) that, "don't forget, you're sitting on an engine."
ie, they do tend to make noises than we would like.

If your bike is under load, perhaps it is pinking.

Is your mainstand making contact with the exhaust anywhere? Had that on my1150.

p.s. Expect a few sarkie replies, and some of this and maybe or if you're really lucky some one with the same problem who can tell you! Lets wait and see

It appears ...

... to have the OEM can on it, which makes it at least 8 years old and it may be suffering internally. Take the exhaust can off completely and see if the noise goes away. Many UKGSer's run 1150's like this all the time as it makes little difference to the noise output, albeit we tend to use a 'stubby' exhaust tube to stop the cat filling up with water.

If it's only in higher gears under load then it could well be. If it is, don't make it do it too much or you might end up with holy pistons / burned exhaust valves.

oh and another thing, its when i am on the bike, no load... but i think i qualify as a load as i am not the smallest guy...
