I have a strange noise coming from my bike, at 3500rpm in 5th gear, on a partial throttle. It's hard to describe, but its like a deep pulsing every half a second. I think it must be new, as I've not noticed it before, but it is quite subtle.

I'm thinking it could be air box related, as it's that sort of noise, but there's no effect on the power, just the noise. Its not hard to ride around, just annoying!

Any ideas before I call BMW rescue?

if it's pulsing, then it could be two things making a noise at close frequencies.

Tyre tread on the road surface?

Call Assist to be sure .....

If you are running Anakee 3s that are nearing the end of life it could be that as mine did it on those tyres and got so bad at 40-50mph that i thought the FD was givibg up !

If that isnt the problem call BMW assist for recovery

I have actually put new tyres on recently - original Tourances. Maybe I'll give them a few hundred miles and see if it goes away

Check your panniers locks are okay! If not ..... Call BMW assist.......

Sorry not very helpful sound like tyres or bearings to me. Get some ear plugs :thumb2

Almost certainly the tyres....had the same thing with mine, they are well known for this effect.

Gearbox or final drive. Mines does exactly the same and my 1150 also did it.
A kind of rhythmic drone.

I ditched my Tourance EXP's for being too noisy - just as you describe but road speed related, didn't matter which gear you were in. Noise appeared at 40mph and dissipated around 50mph. Fitted Mich Pilot 4's - all good.

It's tyres, the forum is full of posts like this. I always had it with tourance tyres. Just put a set of trail attacks on and it has gone. I wouldn't let it put you off the tyres, they work really well, just a little noisy.
