Hello,
Sorry to bore you with yet another servo/ABS problem but I have spent hours going through the forum and cant find another quite like this.

I have a 2005 GS Adventure with Servo/ABS brakes.
All has been working fine till the wheel was off for a tyre change last week.
Now it doesn’t work fine…..
I’ve had the wheel off, calliper off, checked/cleaned everything twice now since but still have the same problem.
I’ll detail the symptoms and hopefully one of you gurus will be able to give me some advice, other than do away with the servo/abs…..

Ignition on, servo screams but doesn’t reset, just keeps going.
ABS light flashes fast and the general warning triangle light below it stays on.
Front brakes work fine, rear has no power (servo off?)

Ignition on while holding down the ABS button to switch ABS off, servo sounds and resets as would be expected.
ABS light stays on, general warning light switches off after a couple of seconds.
Front and rear brakes work fine, servos work as expected, ie, rear works from rear brake, front and rear work from front brake.
This is exactly what I would expect to happen if I started the bike while over riding the ABS.

If I disconnect the rear ABS sensor and turn on the ignition the ABS light flashes slowly as I would expect but the general warning light stays on.

Sounds like an ABS problem then?

To confuse even further, sometimes, when I’ve forgotten to hold the ABS over ride button down the servo and ABS start as normal and work fine. ie ABS light flashes slowly, general warning light goes out after a couple of seconds, ABS light goes off once I start to move, then ABS and brakes work perfectly.

Do I have a duff ABS sensor? Is there any way to check other than forking out for a new one?

HEEEELLLLP……. Please?

check yer brake lever ain;t fouling the handgaurd leaving the system to think you're pulling the brake on

and not able to do self check

Check you didn't damage the abs ring on the wheel...look carefully:thumb

Brakes

Thanks guys, have checked both of these and both ok
The tyre was changed by a bike place on Skye last weekend when I needed an emergency new tyre while on a long weekend away. First time I've had someone else take my wheel off, that'll teach me.
To be fiar to him I didn't see him do anything wrong.

Out of interest, it started working fine again this afternoon, had about 6+ starts without any problem, but just tried it again just now and it's back faulty again:banghead:

Brakes

Did they replace the wheel spacer?

Thanks for the suggestion but the spacer is in place.
It could just be coincidence it started right after the tyre change but I’d doubt it.
To be fair to the guy that did it I didn’t see him do anything wrong or any differently from I have taken the wheel off and refitted it.

I know there ahs been a lot of discussion about servo/abs problems but I can’t find anything the same as this. The fact that it intermittently seems to work perfectly is odd too.

Plug in a diagnostic unit and the fault will have been recorded.
