Can someone tell me (or post a screen grab) of the level of detail provided in Mapsource City Select.

Tortosa in the Ebro Valley is the town I am particularly intersted in. I spent 3/4 of an hour driving up pedestrian precincts, etc. trying to find our hotel last week, so I'm getting that Garmin Quest feeling.

Cheers, PB

this is city navigator, which i guess is much the same.

FYI, you can see the detail of any Garmin map, at any place it covers, by going to their site ( www.garmin.com ) and clicking on "map and chart products" then selecting the map you want to see in the "Mapsource map viewer"...

Map detail varies enormously in Spain, as not much of it is mapped. All the major cities have excellent detail, smaller cities and some large towns are usually pretty good, smaller towns and villages less so, but it really depends on the region. It varies from full mapping, to a dot with a name.

I don't know how much difference city select v8 will make in comparison with v7. I'll have to wait for the new version to appear and look for myself, I suppose.

I'd heard a lot about the lack of mapping in Spain, but when i was there summer this year, i had no problems with my Quest, i was expecting the worst, but actually found it to be superb. Admittedly i wasn't exploring the "outer regions" but all my travelling, was covered excellently.

Unless you're travelling x-country or miles from anywhere major, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Cheers guys,

That looks like the level of detail I need. Looks like a Garmin Quest will be on my Xmas list. :) PB

Find yourself a Mk 1 (or rocking horse shit) 'cos the Mk2 don't come with PC mapping. Think Garmin have taken their eye off the ball here

Navteq have made a lot of progress with mapping of Spain over the last two years. The first time I went there - about 2003, using version 4 maps - it was horrible. I was there again this past summer using version 7 maps, and the difference was really remarkable.
