I've had a sg2 jacket for 4 years or so. It's pretty well worn out, and, truth be told, I'm ready for a new jacket, even though I could get another year or so out of this. I could get a brand new SG2 for 1/2 price of a new sg3. Are the upgrades worth it? Besides the color, armor and C-change are there any other changes?

What is the difference with the two in the heat? In theory, they'd be the same except the sg2 uses goretex and the sg3 uses the c-change.

cheers,
Jim

Can't answer your question but I am pretty shocked your SG2 is about worn out. I washed my 5yo SG1 over the weekend and thought it looked in excellent shape given the amount I wear it.

Must admit i've had mine for about 4 years and it still washes up well unlike the trousers which at less than 2 years old have developed brown coloured patches which make them look decidedly knackered. May try for a replacement from my dealer.
Seem to remember that the zips are different now?

SG3 only has the one zip compared to two zips on the SG2. If I had the choice of getting a SG2 for half the price of a SG3 then I would go for that, as having owned both I don't think there is a great deal of difference between the two.

Well, truth be told, I've got upgrade fever boys:D If there doesn't appear to be much difference according to those with experience with both, I'll stick with what Ihave for another year or so. It's wearing very well. In fact, I could wash it to sell and help finance the new jacket. I just learned of a new with tags Sg2 for $400 US. Not a bad deal. Maybe, I'll just buy that one, and, put it in the closet for when my other dies.

Oh, all this talk of fading. My jacket is gray. This other sg2 is "tobacco". Looks great, but, will it fade?

Still looking to hear from those with experience with both!

That's a very good deal!

My SG2 was replaced under warranty because the colour had started to fade. As the SG2 was no longer in production it was replaced with the SG3. I was more than happy with my SG2 and I haven't found that much difference with the SG3 apart from the one zip and the larger back protector on the SG3. In your shoes, with the chance of a new SG2 at half price I would take that option without hesitating.

Bought the US$400 jacket today. That's US$400 shipped from Germany, so, look out above your heads you might see it flying by:clap:clap:clap

cheers
Jim
