Has anyone had a Streetguard 3 jacket zip successfully repaired or replaced?
I believe LSR in Burnley do the warranty repairs for BMW Motorrad and will probably give them a call tomorrow, but if the zip needs replacing are there good waterproof alternatives to the original? I've silicone lubed it but some time ago it just stopped going to the top ... and is now gradually going up less and less. Getting it back down is starting to be hit and miss as well ... on one occasion I've had to remove the jacket like a sweater!
Everything else about the jacket is brilliant, it's 100% waterproof, warm, versatile, and fits really well, but currently I can't trust the zip enough to actually use it.
For information ... the zip appears to be a construction of a stiff sub-layer, over which there is a flexible rubberised cover onto which the teeth are bonded. The issue is that the rubberised cover has become unstable and moves on the sub-layer, causing the teeth to bunch up, it's the sub-layer that provides the stability for the teeth. I can drag all the teeth back into position and can feel the teeth and rubber move relative to the sub-layer, but as soon as the jacket is zipped up the rubber and teeth move again.
The pictures show how the rubberised layer has moved, it looks similar to de-laminating Goretex. I can stretch the section that's moved and it looks pretty normal again.
