Hopefully not the end of my beloved SP2720...
Turn on and go though boot-up and it prompts for screen calibration. That's obviously not normal. Pressing the screen as instructed gives a cross hair but it continues to ask for screen presses, seems stuck in a loop.
It did this a couple of times on a recent family trip to France in the cage but managed to sort itself out.
Yesterday led a ride-out into Wales. Mounted sat nav on the bike early, switched on and loaded route as usual. Turned off and went back inside to get kitted up. Once back on the bike it started doing the calibrate screen loop 'trick'. Nothing I did seemed to stop it though eventually it relented, loaded the route and then started again a mile down the road. I turned it on and off a few times with little success until the first stop, occasionally it would do a mile or so before starting the loop again. In the end I gave up and left it off, luckily I knew most of the route and managed to string the bits I didn't know together without missing a turn. Tried again a few times during the day with the same result. If left to carry on in the loop there was audible clicking via the Autocom as if buttons or the screen were being pressed.
There has been a little internal screen misting, that goes if it's a warm day, for over a year. This loop fault occurs on the bike cradle and car lead so it's not power related. Though oddly it hasn't happened yet on the mains adapter but that may just be coincidence or a temperature/humidity thing?
I've taken the whole thing to bits and it's in the airing cupboard drying out at the moment, though there was no evidence of moisture inside. I've also cleaned the screen edges, gasket and bezel in case there was a piece of grit trapped in there pressing the screen. Though I didn't find anything obvious.
I hope I can sort this out as a/ I can't afford a Zumo at the moment and b/ I really like the 2720, it's (to date) been rugged and dependable and been a great sat nav.
Do Garmin still do service exchange on the 2720 or have they dropped support

I do know where there's a *new* 2610, boxed with all its bits, City Nav V8 yellow/orange colour slip with unlock code .. coz I looked .. it even has the film protector across the screen, its that new. I have been waiting for 'someone' to give me all details and offer up in 4sale section.
