Hi,

Can anyone help please ?

I've got a new, unused, unregistered street pilot 3 sat nav. I've loaded the mapping software and it looks fine.

However when I try to down load to the memory card by plugging in the lead to a USB port in the lap top it can't find or recognise any of the COM ports. I've been told that it's because my windows 7 operating system won't recognise the somewhat old street pilot kit.

I've been into the garmin website, and I've down loaded everything that I can find. Is there another driver that I need to down load ? Or could someone transfer some mapping into my memory card if I sent it to them ?

Cheers,

Nick

IIRC the card downloader was a serial port device, that could be made to work with a usb if you had a converter.

But messing with a SP3 :blast

So what was the serial lead for on this piece of GPS history?

The lead to link the SPIII to PC in order to update the firmware and to send routes and waypoints to it was a serial bus. I also have a serial lead that also has a 12V cigarette lighter plug on it. I used to use it to power the Streetpilot in the car while also sending an NMEA signal to the laptop so that I could navigate on that.
