Streetpilot III cannot find data cartridge

Hopefully someone could help me with this problem:

Downloaded map onto cartridge from mapsource cd for a ride out today but the gps acted really wierd, sending me all over the place as if it didnt have a clue , i noticed at the time that i had lost all points of interest and addresses data. Whe i got home i then coulnt get my PC to find any Garmin device even though it was attached, then when switching on and off the loading screen says cartridge not accessible. Is my cartridge broke or my GPS unit or am i missing something really basic?

Never had this problem but :-

If you're using it on batteries, make sure they are fresh or fully charged.

Make sure the data card is pushed fully home.

Use the card programmer and try to download from the card to your PC. This will check that the card had loaded in the first place.

Try it all again.
