one thing i noticed about the 800 is when its on the centre stand how much weight is pushed foward onto the front wheel,so when i came to do the steering head bearings last weekend i thought id better get something made up to support the front end to get the forks out,so i came up with these adjustable jacks to fit onto the cross bar on the crash bars

being a welder/fabricator has its advantages sometimes

Good fab skills! It doesn't look too stable though!! I use a small hydraulic lift - best garage investment i made.

Great but why didn't you use the trolley jack like everyone else :D

I'm not a fan of putting that much weight through the studs into the casings

Piece of wood on top of the trolly jack to spread the load ... done me well for five years and 100,000 miles

Oh ... and about five sets of head bearings and lots of tyre changes ;)

Perhaps a solution looking for a problem?

I had both wheels off the 650 today, ( and regularly do the same with the 1150) main stand and trolley jack with a piece of wood......I don't know why you think there a problem using the jack because all it's doing is stopping the front of the bike dropping, there's very little weight on it

still not a fan :D

It's how ALL the dealers do it. Maybe not a trolley jack rather a flat type of wind up platform, but still supporting the front of the sump guard.

Not much use as a sumpguard if it won't support the weight of the 'bike though :nenau

Each to his own of course :thumb

the sumpguard isnt designed to support the weight of the bike, why would it ??

It's a GS ... Gellande Straße, on road/off road :nenau

I've certainly crashed mine onto the rocks in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and the Karakorum Highway of Northern Pakistan, and closer to home, perhaps even rougher, the Stella Alpina Rally ... all to no ill effect ;)

Albeit it is the BMW alloy sumpguard (read Touratech) but nevertheless uses the original/same mountings!

I posted a thread on this about a year or so back with my effort! :D

I felt it was an easier option than carrying a trolley jack about with you all the time. :augie

great idea just one thing how did you set the 2 jacks buy putting the trolley jack under the sumpguard

It's not supporting the weight of the bike, the main stand takes most if it.

I never said it did

Micky said what use is the sump guard if it can't support the weight of the bike

why would i want the risk of a trolley jack moving and the whole lot going over

any how's it works for me so there you go
