Hi,

I just wondered if anyone knows whether left hand and right hand TT Zega panniers are interchangeable? I think they are but not sure. Reason I ask is that I currently have a Remus exhaust but am going stubby, which means I will be able to fit 2 full size panniers :thumb2 As I have a set of Zegas to fit with the Remus, rather than just trying to buy a large TT Zega pannier for the left hand side, I am thinking that buying another set like the one I have will mean I can use the two slimmer ones for short trips and the two full size panniers for bigger trips.

I know I will need to modify the left hand pannier frame as it currently accomodates the exhaust placement.

I'd thought about using System panniers like Coolcarbon but have been recently thinking of the TT Zegas instead. Will get them powdercoated black though as I dont like to much silver.

Cheers

Sorry I can't help with the panniers, but can you give me any details/pics/links of the stubby you intend fitting please?

Dont have pics of the stubby but purchased it through a chap here on the forum. Do a search on stubby exhaust you should find it easy enough:type . I am also modding my cat like some of the other chaps to free up the gases! :D

Cheers :thumb2

TT panniers are no interchangable sidewise... I've just tried ;)

The mounting pucks are not central on the back of the panniers....

Think this is what you're after :) 2 41litre Zegas in conjunction with a stubby

 Yeah that is exactly what I want :clap Is that your bike? If so how did you go about it? I dont really want to be buying a new Zega pannier for the left side but it would be hard to find one second hand I think. :(

Thanks for the pic.

Yes its mine ;)

Got the frames already modded with the panniers.... the nearside one will need a bit of cutting and re-welding to bring it in...If you look at the offside frame you'll need to make the nearside look almost identical . works a treat though :thumb

That is brilliant  Any more pics welcomed but that should do the trick for me in passing the frames to my welder :bounce1 ! How did you get the panniers? Did you buy them from new or just get the left hand one seperately?

Wish I had a set like that :tears

Cheers! :beerjug:

You could always try one of these?

Couple of little thoughts here :mmmm

You say your going to buy another set of panniers.
Don't forget: If you modify the frame on the left side your Remus will no longer fit.

You also mention something about modifying the Cat.
The Stubby will only work with the Cat fitted. It will be too loud with the 'Y' piece fitted. Effectively the Cat is your silencer.

HTH Val.

Chris that bike looks too clean to me. You not using it in the winter? :thumb2

Bought them from Nick Marshall ... serial seller of this parish :D Saying that in 12 months had the following panniers

1 set of Civils
1 set of system panniers
1 set of GSA ally panniers
1 set of Al Jesse boxes

then the TT set ;) Think I've settled down a bit now :D

PS Val's quite right... don't gut the cat .... The stubby will be too noisy, and you'll gain nothing except decibels

Shows the symmetry off nicely :augie

Regards panniers yes I think I will need to buy a left side Zega but am aware that with the frame modification the Remus will no longer fit.

With regard to the CAT mod this was documented by Coolcarbon and involves cutting open the cat, cutting a hole into the internal y-piece, and knocking through the honeycomb section to allow greater free flow of exhaust gases. Although I wouldnt usually do this a few chaps have and say it sounds grunty but not too loud and still goes through the MOT ok.

Not decided on this yet though.

Looks great! :thumb2

I have a stubby extension pipe which is literally just that, and not the more ergonomic designer finish like yours. Did you get yours made up then or is it off the shelf?

Thanks for the pics this is really really helpful to me :beerjug:

Regards the CAT :kitty see my email response to Val as Coolcarbon and a few others have modded the cats :kitty by cutting a hole into the top to access the interior, making a hole in the y-piece, then drilling (or in Coolcarbons case 'hammering a screwdiver'!) a hole (fairly small) through the honeycomb section to ease the gas flow. Then the top of the cat :kitty is welded back up and apparently its grunty but not an MOT failure and still not as loud as the Remus

Your advice welcomed though if you think this is a bad idea. I guess cats :kitty are so cheap these days that if I'm not happy with the result I can always buy another for £10 off of ebay!!!

I've also got a Power Commander to fit. But that's another story..!

cat

p.s. think I may hold off from modding the cat though if no performance improvements can be gained. I guess my :kitty will be happy its not getting angle grinded and welded! :D

I bought it from the guys at Straight line racing. It's a Remus end can for a GSX-R 600 K6/7 and fits straight on to the cat without any mods. My CAT is standard without any holes and the stubby gives off a lovely throaty grunt without being too loud. The cost was £54 delivered last year but I know of a few other tossers who have called Straight Line Racing who have been quoted £112. I have just got off the phone to Calsport http://www.calsport.co.uk/ who have told me they will supply it for £48 delivered.
This way you can keep your panniers as they are without having to spend any more on a left hand pannier.....:thumb

Thanks for the advice on Calsport I think I will call them and order one :thumb2

Might have missed your point but when you say this way you can keep your panniers as they are do you mean even with the stubby I can just leave the left hand pannier as it is (i.e. thinner than the right hand pannier)?

If so, the only issue is that as well as liking the idea of being a bit different by having a stubby exhaust rather than a Remus, I also want to do this in order to be able to have a full size Zega left hand pannier :clap Think I might get the CAT and end can fitted first though this weekend and then in a few weeks look at modding the pannier frames and buying a 41 litre left hand Zega like yours :thumb2

Sorry Realboss, I thought you had the special Zega panniers with the cut out on the left one for the exhaust. I fitted the stubby because of some issues i had with the extension pipe that comes with the Special system. I'm not sure if you would get away with a full size left hand pannier as the stubby may just sit in front of it and spit the exhaust gasses over it. Here's some more pics of my set up..:thumb

Stubby

Ah ok, now I understand :blast Nope I just have the smaller size Zega for the left hand side. However the current 'stubby' I have was purchased through a fellow tosser and is basically a u bend pipe. Its not that long and ends up pointing towards the ground so dont think it will be an issue with the panniers.

I have a big euro trip in December/January to Portugal via France and Spain :D and was hoping to have it ready for then, but I think what I will do is leave the panniers as they are with the Remus can and then in the new year I will fit the CAT :kitty and u-bend stubby. Based on how this functions in relation to chucking muck onto the existing left side pannier I will decide if I can go for a standard full size or whether I need a set-up more akin to yours.

Thanks again for this help and the pictures. :thumb2

Where did you get your rack made/modified Bryn?
I have a stubby and special panniers and want a full 41l on the nearside too when I use the stubby.
