Stubby pipe and Cat conversion...got your fueling right?

Just a quicky that I meant to post last week but forgot :blast

Changing back to standard (or even drilled) cat with stubby pipe is quite popular- I did it a couple of weeks ago when I was fitting some new Vernatechs so I could mount them properly (not the pannier's fault, down to my previous set-up)

Anyway...the day after we set off round Europe and the bike was fine up to 4500rpm, OK rolling on or off the throttle but became really 'fluffy' cruising in top at 5000 rpm.....similar feel/ symptoms as a breaking down coil pack but both of mine are newish so I didn't think it was that.

I whipped off the seat and removed the Steptoe link......didn't bother resetting the motronic (couldn't remember if it was fuse 3 or 5) 'cos I remember Neil saying it didn't actually make much difference, it would still learn, and within half a mile had a big grin on my face.

The bike was much MUCH smoother pulling right through the range, the fluffyness had disappeared and I noticed a big difference at trickle speed in towns as well..I guess the fueling has been wrong for ages but removing the link has made it bang on now :thumb2

So if you've done the 'zorst mod, it might be worth playing with the fuel map link...even if you don't think it's that far out, it made a big difference on mine :thumb2

(PS I just pulled it completely so effectively I'm back to standard fuelling)

I'm running standard fuelling with a standard cat and stubby. Significant improvement in low to mid range, better fuel economy and still pulls clean and hard to the red line:thumb
 
Had my 1150 Twinspark running standard cat and stubby dyno'd with the cat code mod and without....

Fuelling better without the mod ;)
