Ive just come back from my 6k trip round Europe and after reading my manual I sorted the lights out ready for my trip.

It wasnt until I returned home and was riding in the dark that I realised my odo only lights up Mph and not Kph.

Stupid question but is there a way of swapping what lights up on the odo or do you have to just guess what speed your doing when its dark???

I should add that the method and inconvenience of moving the headlight suggests to me that "BMV" (always makes me laugh) only thought about the UK as an afterthought. Im sure it would have been a peice of :monkeypiz to have made it easyer to move.

:

The 'ODO'...or odometer...is merely the device that records the distance covered...whether it be in Metric or Imperial units.

You appear to be asking about the 'Speedo' .. or speedometer..which indicates the speed currently being travelled at....:nenau

As you can see from my 1200GS the dials are quite evenly lit:

It could be that some of the lighting in the dials, be they bulbs or LEDs, have failed and caused the inner area of the dial not to be as well lit.

If you're that bothered you may have to open up the body of the dials and see if you can improve the lighting in there.

Can anybody confirm that the 1150GSA should actually light up on the Kms?

My bikes under warranty so im sure this can be sorted if so.

It would be a real problem as you cant see the Kms at all in the dark!

Now im not longer a Europe virgin I plan to do alot more touring abroad so this needs sorting as my on the spot arithmetic is rubbish, as is my spellling probably. :rolleyes:

On the 1150's all the light has to come from around the outside of the dial or through the odometer and trip meter gaps in the dial. If the odo and trip are lit and you have light around the circumference of the dial then that's your lot.:(

Having said that it may be worth checking to see if the lamp is on it's way out, i.e. discoloured glass, as that would reduce the amount of available light.

Its not as much of an issue as you think. Just learn your 6X tables. Whenever I've been over there I've multiplied the speed limits by 0.6:
40kph = 24mph
45mph = 27mph
60kph = 36mph
75kph = 48mph
100kph = 60mph ........ish

(The precise conversion factor is 0.621371 but 0.6 is close enough):thumb

I've had staff who couldn't do that calculation in the office, in broad daylight with the help of a calculator:eek: let alone whilst riding a quarter ton motorbike with a huge amount of luggage as well as 30Kgs of fuel in foul weather in the middle of the night when the speedo says 110mph:duno
