Numpty alert ! I've recorded some movie footage on my panasonic tz5 camera, but windows media player doesn't recognise it. I've previously done this without problems, but a long while ago.

It's a '.mov' file - how do I change the file type so I can access the footage on a media player ? Also, how do I upload the footage from the camera/media card as a mpeg or similar more common file type to avoid the .mov problem in future?

Got my hard hat on for flak, but suggestions (preferably helpful - rather than "put the camera back in the box, you're too thick to own or operate one" :D ) welcome :thumb2

it's using a common apple codec, the simplest way is down load quick time (free). It's a cross platform software, and really easy to use. I think it's $50 for the pro version which gives you full edit facility.....

then save the file once editted into whatever you want...:thumb2

Yup, what he says......or you can use FLV player (also free) or one of several other video players...or you can run it through a converter program to turn it from .mov to .mpeg or whatever format you would prefer.

Working with it in QT would be better though, as every time you convert a format, you tend to lose some quality :beerjug:

Or you could probably download a codec pack that would enable windows player to play more formats.

Actually you might not need to transcode the contents, quicktime .mov is a container format, the contents will have their own codec MotionJpeg (from google for tz5), which you may be able to get native support for. VLC should be able to play it.

Where do you want to send the output?

thanks y'all - quick time download fixed the problem in (ahem) quick time :D

3 minute response from Lo-IQ :clap

As for sending the output, if I've understood your question correctly, I just wanted to view the fillums and (maybe) upload it/them to a drop box in picasa viewer thingy - not sure if picasa will take moving piccies but I'll worry about that later.

Had the same problem with my TZ10 which records in HD .mts format.

VLC player fixed the playing issue.

Also works in Picasa web albums but you can't seem to upload from within Picasa desktop. I just create a new online album, upload from within the online album pages and them move the video later if I want them mixed in with some still albums. :thumb2

even easier just rename the file to mp4 it will work fine
