Hi folks - new to the forum (I'll post in the Be Gentle Forum too hehe),

Just got a 2000 R1150GS with 50K Miles on it.

How does one check the oil level?

Is it better to place on the center stand and let everything 'drip' down and view the oil window? and what is a good place to have it (level wise).

I want to top it up (after removing a valve cover I lost some oil) and am not really sure if the (200ml) of oil is even registering ... so before I add any more, I want to be sure I am doing this right.

How long after a brief ride do I wait for the oil to settle?

Cheers
Richard

1. Ride till warm..
2. Put on side stand on level surface for 3 or 4 minutes.
3. Put on centre stand wait 3 or 4 minutes and you should have a repeatable reading.

All to do with draining the oil cooler down apparently.

And 200ml is way more than you should lose taking off a cover.

Make sure the level isn't above the sight glass in which case you won't be able to see any level and you'll end up adding a gallon of oil.:D

Read the handbook. If you can see oil in the glass then your safe and you've nothing to worry about.:blagblah
