I think I want to use my iPhone instead of my nav5.

Is there a power supplying mount that will snap into the cradle?

Or am I better off mounting the quad lock on the bars and running a wire to it?

Like to keep stuff tidy where possible, but also not a huge fan of the large quad lock wireless chargers.

Or is a cheap Chinese unit that will mirror my phone a better option I wonder?

Cheers.

I was at Vertu Shipley last Monday and there was a lad trading his R1250 GSA in. He had a quadlock mount that had a plate which fitted the BMW cradle.it wasn’t a charging one so he just had a short lead from the USB port on the dash. It looked very neat and tidy. Apparently Uncle Ali or TEMU supplied it.

I was in there yesterday.

Sounds like the sort of thing I'm after.

If there was one that took power from the cradle so I didn't need a long lead that'd be even better.

I’d go for a PeakDesign powered phone mount and associated phone case if you want a secure, solid and well thought out solution, not least it does look great too. I am not a fan of QuadLock system, having tried it when these fists appeared in the market. Alternative is to use a cheap mirroring device for Apple CarPlay. I personally use CHIGEE AIO5. Well acted together unit. You might be able to source one relatively cheap on a used market. Then again there are really cheap units available through influencer affiliation codes on YouTube etc. I know @Arsey purchased a few over the past couple of years and they have been great. You still going to need power source for your phone if you want to have it topped up with juice.

Wapping has used both mirroring (CarPlay) device and phone for all his navigating. I do believe his overall preference just to use a cheap secondary iPhone purely for the Navigation, from memory without even a SIM card installed.

100 beans is a lot these days, especially with China on the scene.

Personally I use a Chigee AIO5 but I wish with hindsight I had bought the bigger 6" version. The screen on the 5 is quite small.

It is indeed, but you can justify it when you feel the quality of the product, plus peak design customer service and warranty are brilliant. Try that with China. You’ll be lucky to get a reply for a Thank you message, let alone any possible issues in the future.

It is a bit small, but usable. I’ve purchased mine when they first came out and were being sold in preorder basis for not a huge amount of money. The 6” version certainly better, and does come with a BMW nav ready mount. Clip it in in same way as your Nav5/6 and away you go.

Yeah I'm pretty weird. Don't like having excessive stuff hanging off the bike.

Just removed the crash bars it came with in favour of X-head covers as they are lower profile.

Think I want to use the phone so it's not something else to have to worry about getting nicked / remove when I park somewhere. Plus it keeps my phone charger up.

The wunderlich box looks good, but again, over 100 quid for a little bit of plastic.

Maybe I just need the connected ride cradle.

To be fair, it's a bit more than that, it takes the bike's 12V supply and converts it into a USB output. And it comes with a quadlock adaptor too. Still not cheap though.

You could pick up a BMW Connectedride cradle pretty cheap. Mine will charge my iPhone 15 via wireless charging without any issue. However, I do take it out of its case, so it doesn’t get too hot.
