Sub 220kg bike for 2 + luggage

Mmm...I had actually quietly thought about a big scoot (and also a Niken!)

The NC750 would be to small, but what about a transalp

What does a Multi Strada weigh
I think my 1260 pikes peak was way under 220 KG

So we're looking for something big AND light? Therein lies the challenge...
Not necessarily big AND light...but if such a thing exists (hence my first line in post 1) I'd like to try it. Oddly I suppose, first and foremost my Mrs has to be comfy. If she isn't she won't ride pillion and agian..oddly..she's my best mate so I'd likely not ride anywhere near as much and just get something way smaller to ride locally and do the very occasional trip with some mates (who live 750 miles away in the UK)

Nah, that's dry....wet they weigh c 230kg
Transalp look great IMO. I'll happily try one

Stick a full Termi on and get rid of 10KG so then within requirements and so much fun and yet comfy and spacious etc etc

Looks to be lots of rounding up to me :D (Although it'd still put a Ducati down to low 220s kg but I've no need (or want) for 160hp...but I do like 'em) Bloody hell, round and round in circles.....

Cheers. The MT-09 just wouldn't work...the seat to peg would mean her knees are at too acute an angle...so she'd be punching me in the ribs and calling me names (I don't mind the bruises but hate being called nasty things) and we'd struggle fitting a top box which we have on all the time (Ugly as f### but bloody useful)
Just a thought Davey; big bikes with small weight are few and far between; :beerjug:

There is the 950 multi but I think it might be cramped 2 up as well
Very similar weight to the 1260. A mate was looking at dropping in 'size' and I had a quick look at respective weights.

Indeed, thanks anyway and you're right. It is gonna have to be a compromise and may end up ignoring the quoted weights and simply go on how it feels (back to a boxer?)

I recall a chat with a feller at Douglas, about to board the ferry to Liverpool 2 or 3 years ago. he was on a Benelli 502. He had 'downsized' as his last biked was simply too heavy at 240kg (I can't recall what it was). I'd just read about the 'middleweight' 502...at 235kg....so I mentioned the weight 'Do you know what the 502 weighs then?'
"No, but's only a 500cc bike so way less"
'5kg less'
He was a bit gobsmacked but had obviously ridden it just fine....maybe some of it is in the mind ?

A friend did several rides to Italy and back on a V-Strom 1000 with his Mrs on the back and full luggage, it's another 230 kg machine but it handles well and didn't let him down in 40k miles. Is that 10kg really critical?
The F900xr comes in at 219kg and easily gets 60mpg... To me it felt heavier than my friends V-Strom though.

No...the actual weight isn't critical per se....it is more that my At is supposedly 242kg...so I've rounded it to 250kg with pannier rails and a top box....going 10 or 15kg lighter wouldn't be a noticeable amount (on paper) I appreciate I need to at least sit on a number of bikes but a shortlist is better than simply visiting every dealer around and trying to suss what may work for us and what won't...if that makes sense. (Or maybe the best thing to do is go in with a totally open mind and see what I fancy....oh FFS !)

Weight. It’s as much about where that weight as how much it weighs. Top heavy but 200kgs feels way worse than 230kg and carried low and central.

Didn’t the early GSs weigh only 200kg or something dry, so 220 ish wet.

The other thing I don't understand is how some rave about how light the later bikes feel compared with oilheads. Well they don't bloody feel like it to me. Wet weight of a 1250 is about 249kg, my 1100 weighs 243kg, R100GS is 210 according to Wikipedia.

I've just lowered the suspension on my 11 (recently wrecked shoulder, short legs) and it feels much more manageable. Might be in my head, but so what?

Honda 125 - ferrying families and theirs dogs and pigs all over Asia and further.
Or a Rotax 650 An Ozzy 6'6 friend of mine and his lady went all over Morocco on one- trails and all.

There are separate issues here: weight is not the make or break, pushing the bike around is one area where many people struggle and probably will be the main reason why I’ll sell my K1100 even though it’s the easiest big bike I’ve ever owned to put on the centre stand.

Some bikes do feel lighter once on the move but the 1100/1150GS definitely don’t which is the main reason I didn’t gel with mine.

Pillion comfort is the big thing for me and I find so many bikes are just too small and most seem to consider carrying a passenger as an occasional convenience rather than providing long distance comfort which includes making it easy for the pillion to get on and off the loaded bike - this becomes even more of an issue as we get older.

Really struggling now to find current model that would better my ancient R100GS.
