The other morning I rode my 1150 to a meeting in Lemington Spa and a few miles from my destination I stopped for a pee and left the bike on the sidestand.

During the time it took me to pee the bevel box deposited a large amount of oil over the wheel and on the ground, it was quite a pool of oil!

Anyway I was late so I rode the 5 miles to my meeting and just took it easy on the bends and popped out during a break to have a look. Looking inside I could see oil which now appeared to be at a level below where I assumed a seal would be when the bike was upright.

I decided to ride the 100 miles home cross country which all went OK.

What’s the verdict?

Oh I did check the wheel for play and it all seemed Ok and there where no funny noises so my diagnostics ais, a seal has gone.

The bikes got 65,000 on the clock

Cheers

my 1150 did that once, the bearing cage had broken up and damaged seal.

quite dodgy as it could have locked the wheel

if you can get the old one out, they sell them pretty cheap at Revolution bearings and seals in Harper lane.

I have a spare bevel box you could borrow whilst you are doing the job.
