I hope this doesn't sound like an advertisement. I'm not in any way affiliated with either of these products, just that I've started using them. I thought people might be interested who had not known about them.
I've been using a a piece of free software for a while called Dropbox. Basically it gives you 2GB of free online storage to either back up files to or to synchronise files on multiple computers. Essentially I had it installed on my work computer and when I saved a file in a particular folder, it automatically copied it across to my home PC and created an online backup. Fantastic piece of software I have to say. It's made it very easy for me to work from home without carrying a laptop about.
The problem was that I only got 2GB of free space (but with referrals and adding them to my Twitter etc I increased that to 4.5GB) so today I started looking for something better.
I found Sugarsync. Straight off the bat you get 5GB free space and you can increase that further for free by referring people and by downloading the mobile phone app etc.
Not fully used it yet but so far it seems as good as Dropbox and even has the additional benefit of an online music player. To test I uploaded an album and played it off their website. Perfect. Now I have my music available on any computer once it has an internet connection.
As with Dropbox, you can upgrade to paid options. The cheapest Sugarsync package is 30Gb for $49.99 but I just logged in and was offered a 50% discount ($24.99/£16) for the first year so I said feck it and paid. They give you 30 days to try the software before charging. So if I don't like it in the next 30 days I'll delete the subscription and it won't cost me a penny. The cheapest Dropbox package is $99 for 50GB.
Sorry if I'm waffling on a bit. I only started using Dropbox 6 months ago and Sugarsync today and to be honest I don't know how I managed without them. No more copying files to USB keys once the computer you are going to has an internet connection. iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry apps all give you access to your files from the mobile device.
So one last thing I want to mention is referrals.

- With Dropbox if I refer somone I get an additional 250MB of free space and so does the person I referred.
- With Sugarsync if I refer someone we both get 500MB or in the case where that person decides to subscribe to any of the paid packages we both get a whopping 10GB.
