Thinking of a ride out from my current base in Halifax tonight.

As I'm new to the area - where would a good spot to head to?

I'll be leaving at about 6pm, and will probably ride for 3-4 hours....

Hmmm, here goes perhaps something like this,
A629 out of Halifax towards Keighley,

Then take A650 towards Riddlesdon and turn left towards East Morton and folow this road over Ilkley moor (great road but beware some of the "humps" are blind!)
Take the right turn signed towards Menston and then follow signs for Otley

North through Otley town centre pass over river bridge then turn right evenyually climbing a slight hill exiting the built up area after about a mile turn left signed Norwood (this will take you past the Sun Inn normally used by Power Rangers), this is a fab road and one of my favourites ...

This should bring you to a cross roads with the A59 - turn Left (bit boring and full of impatient people but means to an end!!) towards Skipton after a few miles when you begin the descent to Bolton Abbey Roundabout about a mile prior to the roundabout you want a small right turn will be signed Bolton Priory or Hill end this small road is superb again but beaware of tractors ..

This will bring you to the B6160 turn right onto it towards Burnsall (Red Lion is a great pub for dinner :thumb)....then maybe B6160, return route and just after Barden Tower turn right over the moor into Embsay, Skipton then probably just blast A629 back to Keighley and home....

Some great roads enjoy sorry i dont do the GPS/computer thing but i hope this is of some use :thumb2

Sorry its a bit late, you are probably out now enjoying the sunshine.
Lots of good routes from Halifax.
Head out To Hebden Bridge and after the town take a left up the steep hairpin bends to Blackshaw edge, continue on to Worsthorne, Trawden and on to Laneshaw bridge. This road which leads to Howarth is called the Bronte way. Follow it towards Howarth and take a left turn up a narrow lane to Oxenhope just after Low Laithe reservoir. Take the A6033 back towards Hebden bridge for about 2 miles and take a narrow road to your left which takes you over Oxenhope moor past the wind farm. The road runs out of tarmac for about 1/2 mile so you can honestly say you take your GS off road,
its bumpy but suitable for normal road vehicles. You will come out in Wainstalles just a few miles from home.
Its about 50 miles and takes about 2 1/2 hours to complete.
