I'm off wandering again soon. I often use Metz as a first stop (either camping or cheap hotel) but fancy something different.
I'm sailing into Rotterdam and heading (very roughly) towards Swiss Alps. I'd like a small village/town, with odd bar/restaurant with a nice campsite within easy distance of Rotterdam.
Any suggestions ....? Nice roads/scenery obviously a bonus.
Yes, I know its a huge variable.
Thanks

Define easy distance, maybe state the time available as well. Your request is too vague to ellicit useful responses

Ok, Within say 200 miles, say, 5 hours travel from Rotterdam.

This is a circle, 200 miles (as the crow flies) from Rotterdam.

I’d suggest anywhere on or around the red line. In other words, south Belgium / north Luxembourg /

In other words, pretty much along the bottom end of the line you’d normally take to Metz:

The Clervaux / Vianden bit of Luxembourg is always popular on these pages, as is just across the border into Germany, which is generally cheaper.

Your go now.

That puts you in the Mosel if heading towards N Switzerland. Ride motorway in NL as dull, towards Aachen, then pick a route through the Eiffel.
Can't help with camping but the Hotel Dolce Vita in Bernkastel Kues was relatively cheap.

no clue on campsites although along the Mosel river there are simply loads but if in the Mosel area can recommend this place. Stayed here many times before
Eifeler Hof

There is a nice campsite at the top of the hill in Clervaux, where we used to stay after the motorcycle GP at Spa. It’s a bit of a yomp into town but we were mid-20’s.

There is another good one, on the river between I think Clervaux and Vianden.

As with the hotels, none of them will be bad per-se and none will thro stones at you.

I see someone did Clervaux camping already.

Hotel Franco-Belge in Montherme in France.

Loads of hotels along the Moselle - we've stayed in Ernst (Pension Konschake) just upstream from Cochem, and another in Klotten just downstream. TO be honest there are enough hotels that you probably wouldn't need to book in advance. Ride until you're ready to stop then find one.
