summer gloves, suggestions.

My Hein gericke summer gloves are now worn out

these were black and light cream, kangeroo hide, with studs on the palms. As is always the way, if HG still sold them, i'd buy another pair.

So, I'm in the market for a pair of summer gloves, prefer hard knuckle armour, I suppose waterproof.

The choice is so vast, I tried to google "ride magazine best buy glove" bit turned up nothing.

I don't want to spend more than £50, the bikes have muffs fitted for winter use, so I'll wear these all year. I don't like gloves that are chunky around the wrist either.

Any suggestions? otherwise it's a case of going to HG, listening to someone who may or may not know much about gloves.

there again, Halvarssons has a certain appeal. Hmm, their "Safety" glove is £82.

before anyone goes on about penny pinching, I am unemployed.

FWIW, I bought a pair of Spada Enforcers (not 'summer' gloves) on the recommendations. They were a fine glove, but I wore them only once and sold them on - I found that they were far too stiff, and reduced my flexibility to grab the brake etc. I'm sur they would soften out in (lots of) use, but I dont spend as much time on the bike as I'd need.

BTW, you say that the choice is vast, but not so if you want waterproof summer gloves, as far as I can see

the waterproof comment was a bit of an afterthought, not critical, but might prove useful. i don't know why, but it's always the left hand glove that wears out, the first finger wears through.

i ride about 17,000 miles a year, so the gloves get a lot of use.

I bought a pair of Richa WP gloves. £50.

Waterproof and reasonably priced. They seem well made, I have always been happy with Richa stuff in the past.

They might be a bit warm in the hottest weather as there are no vents, although they are supposed to be breathable, ,so far I am impressed.

Try googling Held Steve or stevie. Gangaroo leather and nice and thin. Will last years but not waterproof. I have heated grips and use muffs in the winter and when they wear out I'll get another pair!

I've used Dainese short gloves for the past few years - Been through two pairs now, and they've just been replaced with the latest ones - I can thoroughly recommend them.

+1 on the Rallye Pro 2 GS gloves - can't fault them.

You are looking at 55.00-60.00 quid for a pair of GS gloves as at the time of writing. The RP2 GS gloves go on EBay for about £55.00.

i bought a pair of oakley jet pilot gloves from soldier of fortune web site,vented leather palms,carbon fibre knuckles and little grip buttons on fingers for better trigger control,real quality bits of kit and for less than most bike name brands

I go for Spada every time now. Great quality at a very competitive price. Winter riding in Enforcers and about to try their 'Alien' summer gloves. Tracked a good supplier (Ghostbikes?) via Ebay.

Update - avoid Spada 'Alien' gloves. Bad design with armour running in a strip over the fingers which means the section over first finger joint pulls tight and is really uncomfortable. Could feel it 20 mins after trying on the gloves. back in the post they went - refund please.

Update: Going off the RP3 gloves, the velcro fastener goes the wrong way IMHO, and I don't like how they bunch up on the top of the glove, at the wrist end

The RP2 gloves are much better than the RP3's.

I have been using a pair of alpinestar 365, they are waterproof and have all the protection you would expect from a sports glove but they can be a bit warm on the warmest days (not very often) a realy good glove i use mine all year

Anyone tried the Harlvasson Mesh gloves at all?

They cost about £28,which is a sensible price in my books
