Looking to buy a summer suit as my Atlantis 3 is just too hot for very high temps (Britain??? - when?)

Thinking about either BM Savannah or Airflow - any comments from users of these, or other similar kit - all of which must have elbow, shoulder, back, knee & preferably hip armour - as in to protect your hips rather than "real cool man" variety, to save fatuous comments - there again on this site sure to be some anyway:D

Thanks

Ade

bwm rallye 2 - top bit of kit
highly recommended
loads of vents etc and v cool with the goretex liner removed

Air Flow

Ade

I got myself a heavily discounted Air Flow Jacket (last seasons) and have to say its fantastic. Shoulder, elbow armour came as standard, the spine protector was an option. Great bit of kit, very tough, lightweight, the 'air tex' panels work superbly at keeping the torso cool (you're as aware of air passing through the jacket as over the top of the screen). Another bonus - machine washable and easy to wipe clean or deglag of flies. Only one bummer, stylish zips but the actual main zipper tab itself dropped off but I replaced it with a keyring so not really a problem.

Have only got non-BM attire to compare to ie. leathers and textile jackets (obviously never gonna offer the protection of leather, but certainly superior to any textile jacket I've had)

Hope that helps

I have an Atlantis 3 suit - and I love it. (Worn NordKapp to Fes)

I also have an Air Flow suit - fantastic at speed, but (I have the black trousers because BMW UK were not importing the silver ones) at low speed, and stationary, I cook, worse than the Atlantis suit.

I have the BMW Denim suit - also black, but seems to absorb the sun much less.
(I use this for work).

But far and away the best kit I own for UK summer is the BMW Rallye suit. Only reason I dont wear it all the time is 'cause I cant turn up to a meeting in a shirt and tie wearing the (blue & white) trews, (unlike the Denim suit) - but the reason I bought the Air Flow suit in the first place was 'cause I thought I could get away with the trousers - only the sweat running out the bottoms kinda scuppa'd that.

All the above have the same armour, and I dont have the goretex liners for any of them

Oh yeah, and all of the above was bought with at least 30% discount on list - easily achieved by checking BMW dealers on a monthly basis.

I cant comment on crash resistance as I have never 'kissed' tarmac in any of the above. If I had to opt for crash resistance (on feel alone), I would go for the AirFlow over the Rallye, but if I could bear to wear the Airflow Trousers I would just wear the Atlantis ones (better protection, and more comfortable in heat).

Got the savannah 2 jacket. Pretty good range of temperatures to be honest. Bear in mind that I live in Barcelona. With the gore tex liner out and the vents open its not bad at all. Mesh would probably be better of course. Also I think the Savannah kit looks the part. For me it great from spring-summer-autumn. For winter I wear another jacket.

I dont have the trousers I wear the Summer trousers. Less protection but as I appear to have more problems when the bike is parked than when it is moving I dont think its too much of an issue.

I have the Savannah suit which I only wore for one trip which I need to sell. I really like the suit but in my haste to buy it I really didn't make sure that it was the correct fit...you live and learn. So if anyone is interested, drop me a line....

Check out the Hein Gericke summer stuff. I just bought a pair of summer trousers - with full CE protectors only about 50 quid .They have air vents in the legs and the bottoms zip off to make a paid or shorts for when you park up. I have a HG Turaeg jacket which is a light colour which is pretty ok in the summer too.

The suit will fit someone between 5'10 - 6'2" in mint condition
I guess I'd want something around £525 for jacket, trousers and the gortex liners.

I am amazed at what prices people will pay for BMW gear. Maybe it does the job, but the prices are impressive ...

Normally you pay for what you get ... up to a ceratin level. I like HG stuff ... it can be replaced cheaply if you crash etc. It can be changed regularly.

Two weeks ago I saw a guy dressed head to foot in "BMW", on a newish 650 .... I would guess that the gear cost him about 1/3 the cost of the bike.
And he looked very "all the gear, and no idea".

Maybe I just have bought into the corporate club thing yet.....

But on the other hand, I've recently returned from a trip to Austria where my 'waterproof' trousers leaked slightly during one of several monsoons we experienced. I'd paid about a third of the list price 12 months ago in my dealers annual sale and worn the trousers every week since then. I mentioned it in passing last week to my dealer, who immediately refunded my money - no questions asked. I call that service, as the trousers had never leaked until then, despite having been out in all weathers.

Regards,

Charles

Hein gerieke cover for 2 / 5 years, so what is so special about that. The BMW dealership was only doing what he probably has to do under law (fit for the purpose etc)!!

HG is not for everyone ... and I accept there are issues .... But I will take the gamble and spend the money on flights to RSA, or the States !!!!
