Has anybody got any tips for removing the bobbins from the bottom of the engine casing? The rubber parts have seperated and now I am left with a smooth dome that may as well be welded into the engine casing. This has to be the most annoying design feature of the bike, at least if they were square you could get some purchase on it.

My potential solution is to dremel the sides of the round head off to get a spanner or mole grips on it, but I have already broken one and fear that I could be just left with the front two mounts.

I really dont want to snap another as I am concerned about drilling out broken bolts in engine casings!

I've permanently removed the sump/bash plate from my bike.. the bolts with rubbers are still in place..Can't be bothered taking them off.. seems pointless. Would then need to fit more bolts to fill the holes. why bother?
 
If you warm the area up wth a hot air gun,then get a pair of pipe pliers on it they'll come out no problem.Always works for me:thumb2
 
Warm the engine as has been said (I just run it) then pliers, grips or tap a small screw driver on the edge to drift it round (if you don't get what I'm talking about don't just hammer screwdrivers in there! :blast )

I've also managed to get a 'jubilee' pipe clip to tighten enough to turn that and remove them.

They are a pain in the ass though!:comfort
 
Removal

Get your self a pair of 6" steelsons these will do it and you'll find them invaluable for removing studs etc and many other things, sound barbaric but when all else fails these won't.

Will try warming up the engine and then attacking it with an array of weapons........sorry purpose made instruments

The added "bonus" is that it is the right hand rear which means the main stand is in the way and it is not the easiest to access on the side stand:blast
