Sump guard, 1995 R1100GS, help…

Hi, I have just bought a 1995 R1100GS

Today the sump guard hit the ground, held on by one rubber adapter.

When I tried to undo the nut, the rubber sheered.

I have done a search on the net for new rubber adapters, but failed

Can anyone tell me when to get them?

or is it worth fitting another type of sump guard with engine guard ?

Motorworks.. link at the top of this page. will supply the parts.

but.. if you never intend going off road.. then remove the sump guard completely as its pointless.

As advised, motorworks (link at the top of this page) - they're pretty cheap.

The remainders of the old fixings can be removed with some good (sharp) mole grips.

Amall pair of steelsons (about 6") will do the job also very useful for removing
all sorts of probs.

Also, if you are not going off road they are not essential. The rest of the range doesn't have 'em and there are no reported probs of punctured sumps after a trip down an A road:D

The remains of the rubbers on my GS seemed very stubborn even with heat and mole grips and I descided a new sump was a bit over the top if I cracked it:thumb

thanks for the replies and advice

I will refit the guard, as everyday I do a mile over a gravel track, and 60 miles over unlisted and A road mostly in rural locations, which often have the contents of fields spread over the tar

Motorworks...what a nice bunch :thumb2

I phone them, got some advice, ordered the bits, arrived yesterday…which is an achievement, as I live in Aberdeenshire and you would think I was only a couple of miles from the North Pole going by the attitude by some mail order companies.

They are usually very quick to Shetland which is an achievement and when I worked for a dealer I used to order from them 'cos I got it quicker and usually with a better trade discount.

Only recent minus... one or two of the newer blokes could sound a little more like they like BM's:augie
