I have just had a great weekend riding. Today was especially scenic and enjoyable, I would like to repeat the run and share it with others on Sunday 12 Sept.
Im proposing to start from Otley cafe at 10.30 am and run through Lothersdale and the Trough of Bowland to Glasson Dock for lunch. The return route is along the north of the Forest of Bowland to Slaidburn and then over Pendal country and the Forest of Trawden finishing at Allan Jefferies new shop in Shipley.

Its about 130 miles and took us 6 hours to complete at a leisurely pace. Its tight going in places, narrow lanes and some are a bit rough, just right for GS bikes.
If you like to get your knee down or ride the lanes like its a leg of the Dakar this run is not for you. Its slow and steady but dont be fooled in to thinking its too easy, most of the lanes need 100% concentration.
Scenery, riding pleasure and good company are the objectives for the ride.

I will post a GPS copy later. If anybody is interested I can supply Way points for riders to complete the route using their own Garmin Sat Navs, meeting at a few vantage points along the way.

Sorry if it reads like an off road ride. The lanes I propose are all tarmac (or were before bits started breaking off and grass growing through) They are challenging but thoroughly enjoyable and with care suitable for any rider.

I am out with the lads from work the day before so will not be able to come this time (will do if the ride is cancelled on the 11th)

Did you have anyone in mind Sooty?

No one in particular, I'm a slow rider and have found a pace Im comfy with, I can ride slower but if I push for long at a higher speed I become sloppy, especially if Im following somebody.
I have organised a few run outs and the faster riders say the same happens for them in reverse, riding slow becomes too tedious and concentration levels fall.
I hope by giving an indication of the pace in advance it avoids any dissapointment for the fast riders and gives the slower or less experienced riders a day out.

Great fun meeting you and Judith last time Martin, I'd really love to come along on this one (phoo may be on the East Midlands weekend, if not, he'll prolly be along too) :)

The attached Garmin GPS map is the route for Sunday.
Im hoping other riders will be able to load it onto their sat navs and be a few self sufficient riding group with meetings at convenient points, if not we can ride in a column with six or seven riders, any more and we need to use the drop off marking system.

I have marked on the route several re-group points. These allow us to all get together and socialise for a few minutes, most have toilets and a café.
The route is 137 miles starting at Otley riverside café at 10.30.
The lunch point is Glasson docks, the sea lock end of the Lancaster Canal. There are a few cafés and a Pub.
Afternoon tea at Slaidburn then back to Allan Jefferies new shop in Shipley where we all go our own way.

This route follows the original map

Hi Sooty09, its nice to read this and to realise I'm not the only one who doesn't want to go at break neck speed everywhere, seeing as I have only passed my test 15 months i realise i'm no natural biker and see danger that lots of bikers dont seem to see, the ones who have been biking since their teenage years :thumb2
